He might employ someone to do it for him but he’s still looking at it and making decisions with it before a race but crucially I’m talking about what happens in the race as the point.
As funny as that is Jack, tipping from jockeys and knowing how races are unfolding in front of them is completely different
April 22, 2021 at 22:32 #1537549Yes, but as i say, he doesn’t know what Etonian had under his bonnet left, so, IMO, what he’s saying is like me saying, “if LFC had taken their chances vs RM at home we’d be in the next stage”. LFC aren’t, and Oisin lost the race thinking he should’ve won it having no clue what Etonian had left (same as RM)

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!April 22, 2021 at 23:32 #1537559Great example of this is Ruby. Fantastic race analyst, gives you far better insight that most. I think he’s massively underused on ITV. For all that though he’s a useless tipster and wouldn’t attest to be otherwise.
April 23, 2021 at 01:43 #1537565“Kieran Fallon certainly did.”
Not always. Exhibit A: The Bosra Shambles.
April 23, 2021 at 15:17 #1537600I took a bit of 40’s about Etonian
think 12f maybe stretching him but this Sandown race over 10f on decent going should be no problem 8’s looks pretty fairGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
April 23, 2021 at 19:15 #1537622Early days i suppose, but this FAV’s form is starting to look a bit shaky at the moment to justify the price

April 26, 2021 at 09:23 #1537998Got a couple looking in good shape for this ATM and been umming and erring about another for a while now.
Gear Up @ 48.0
Looks almost certain to appreciate going up in trip and flying well under the radar considering he is a G1 winner. Seemed to improve as a 2YO as he went along and with him winning twice at York a fairly good chance the Dante could be the first port of call. Who know’s what will happen in the next few weeks but looks a very generous price.
April 30, 2021 at 19:46 #1538813I’m normally pretty cynical about wide margin novice stakes/maiden winners but my word John Leeper was impressive at Newcastle today.
I thought it was a good, deep field for a novice race and when I was watching the replays just now not knowing who won I was expecting the 2nd Moktasaab to win cosily himself as they came inside the 2F but John Leeper has picked him up from off the pace and cruised past him to win going away. The time was 2.62 seconds quicker than the 0-95 handicap for the older horses which immediately followed and although it will probably emerge that the handicap was slowly run (I haven’t seen the sectionals) it is still some going to be that much quicker than them.
Holds Derby and Dante entries he is very stoutly bred by Frankel out of Snow Fairy, I just wonder if that might all come around too soon now but has also got Royal Ascot entry in the King Edward and the Irish Derby is a bit later still this year which he has an entry for so there are plenty of options. Very exciting times for Ed Dunlop.
May 1, 2021 at 00:07 #1538869Does look a proper beast. Would want to see him in a trial on turf before parting with £ mind.
May 1, 2021 at 16:56 #1539197Agree John Leeper was visually impressive, but “all horses look quick when they’re running past trees”.
Frankel / Snow Fairy a top drawer pedigree alright, but the half sister by Gleneagles could only struggle up to a mark of 100 in her final race last year.
Yep, need some turf evidence before getting involved for the Derby.May 3, 2021 at 09:03 #1539570I suppose that’s the beauty of horse racing its a game of some facts and figures but quite a lot of subjective opinion (even on the handicapping side to a large extent) and that is particularly true at this stage of the season where the form isn’t established amongst these developing 3 year-olds. I thought the novice race was useful and there will be some nice horses in behind but that’s just my opinion based around my own methods of assessing novice races. There is definitely turf evidence needed I’d agree with that and I think the Derby might come too soon anyway.
May 3, 2021 at 18:54 #1539652High Definition entered in the Lingfield Derby Trial on Saturday. I’d certainly be interested in seeing how he handles the undulations and sharp turns.
May 4, 2021 at 13:47 #1539688Don’t get me wrong TinMan, I’d love to see John Leeper prove to be top class, in time. My point was more ‘let’s keep our feet on the ground at this stage’. Look at Almighwar, by Dubawi out of Taghrooda. Bred to win a Derby, impressive in novice events at three. Now favourite – for a Chester Cup…

May 7, 2021 at 17:48 #1539936He’s still in the Dante, Ben
One of just two for the boys in blue.May 8, 2021 at 13:37 #1540084The derrinstown and the Dante look to be the vital trials imho. Could be that the derby winner won’t be the best horse. Loads of horses having had troubled preps. Very frustrating but they aren’t machines.
May 8, 2021 at 15:03 #1540100Aidans 3yo colts are looking pretty average so far this season
Be interesting to see what happens in the derrinstown tomorrow
