I think fear was the key. Having come from off the pace to win the Guineas and then The Coronation at Ascot, there was a precedence about how the filly needed to be ridden. If he had made the running and got beaten, punters would have immediately been calling him Richard Cranium and wondering why he hadn’t adopted the tried and trusted tactics that had served her so well before.
I don’t think so Steve, I would have applauded his trust in the filly because in such a small field she had nowhere to hide so why not have tried to make all and personally I think she would have done it.
Hughes made a big mistake in letting Buick take the initiative and dictate the pace of the race which he did perfectly. Even though I backed Sky Lantern I really admire Elusive Kate and wouldn’t have liked her to lose her race.
I think it was wrong of punters to have emailed the Hannon team encouraging them to appeal (probably some high profile racing pundits too who had lost their money
)it was disappointing to anyone who backed Sky Lantern (myself included) but as the dear late Queen Mum said ‘That’s Racing’
and it’s all wrapping up the fish and chips now so best to move on(she didn’t say that bit
)
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 1, 2013 at 06:51 #447156I see Nick Luck was still whinging about the race yesterday on C4. Apparently it’s still the "Hot Topic" of the moment according to Nick, in your mind Nick.
Thankfully Jamie Stier who hasn’t got much right since he’s been here give him short shrift.
Time to admit you got it wrong Nick and move on.
