I just don’t see him running in an Arc unless two things happen: 1. The US experiment fails or is abandoned and 2. We have a very dry Autumn and the Arc is run on quicker ground.

Don’t forget they pulled him out of the National Stakes last season half an hour before the race due to ‘unsuitable ground’ (it was officially Good to Yielding). Yes, I realise the Dewhurst was run on offically soft ground but the race times would suggest that it was good to soft at worst (4 of the days races were less than 2s slower than standard) and he does have a good/fast ground action.

Clearly the Eclipse decision is about wanting to put a tick in the box marked G1 10F for breeding purposes – had he won the 2000g, I would guess he would have gone to the Irish Derby instead.

Fingers crossed other connections don’t bottle it and run elsewhere but it is interesting to see Coral quoted Auguste Rodin at 7s and Luxembourg at 8s along with White Birch in their market.

It will be known as a small select field.

Sounds like Coolmore have another horse lined up for the Travers Stakes in the US which i think was COT possible target. Obviously plans could change.

Sierra Leone gets beat in the Travers and opens the door for City of Troy for the Classic

Who knows Nath, but sounds very much like the King George is on the agenda if all goes well in the Eclipse.

Haatem could be a lively each way play at 40’s
reckon the numbers could disintegrate and not sure the opposition will not want to make it a stamina test against COT
City of Troy of course could make the running himself but if not Haatem could use his early pace to take up the running and dictate things to suit himself
Hannon has said its likely he splits Haatem and Rosallion up and he holds an entry in this

    Listen

The Lads have had a good chat about this. We were seriously looking at the July cup as this boy has such speed and class.

Listen the July cup comes just a week too late when I am training this boy to the minute so it has to be the Eclipse.

The Lads are sure he will be the best stallion ever.

Bit unfair on the lads. I’m sure they could go down the tradional route and clean up but it would be great if they went outside the box. Clearly cot is a top horse. If only we had these decisions to make.

On June 3rd I put up City Of Troy @ 8/1 on my thread.

But as soon as I saw John Gosden talking about why he was thinking of running Inspiral in the Prince Of Wales… Alarm bells rang out!

Please excuse the aftertiming and feel free not to believe me if you want, but…
I looked on the betfair Eclipse market and saw Inspiral @ 60
    Even had pence @ 65.
Only had £12 all told but I took everything available down to 44.
With the vast majority of it @ 55.

She’s now down to 15 – second favourite.

Probably won’t run and I’ll lose the £12, but here’s hoping.

I’d say 10/11 is still value
Nothing turns up on the day and he gets a walkover

Haggas’s chickening out of this by the look of it which is disappointing. He would’ve been a worthy challenger to COT imo.

Alflaila the next one to be said won’t be running
How many has Aidan got in here..?
The good thing for City of Troy is he is adaptable if there is no pace and can make his own running

Will aidan have to fill the field for this one too. Not a good look at so many sparse fields for group ones

    Only 4 runners last year…

I would think there’d be more than 4 this year. Maybe not those with a good chance of winning though.
My guess would be 6 or 7 runners on Good-firm, 7 or 8 runners on Good ground.

One of the 11 entered is White Birch. He’d have a great chance. Excuses were made for him not running in the POW due to “unsatisfactory blood counts”. His next target was said to be either the Grand Pix De Saint Cloud or Eclipse… And he’s missed the Grand Prix so should run here. Connections were adamant the faster going was not a factor for his Ascot withdrawl. I’m not convinced the going was not a factor. If he runs WB will be a big danger to City Of Troy.

The only other one with a reasonable chance of beating City Of Troy is Luxembourg. But I strongly suspect he’s being left in by Coolmore just in case COT is unable to take part. Ditto Continuous. Likely to be too short a trip for the latter anyway. Hans Anderson will probably be the Coolmore / City Of Troy pacemaker.

So if White Birch does not run City Of Troy’s opponents will probably be headed by Dancing Gemini and Ghostwriter.
