Excellent ride but Frankie was helped by Buick on the owner companion leading the pack in the main group letting Frankie get an easy lead.

In the tiny segment I could bear to unmute for, zero credit for Dettori (who actually rode the horse), zero quality from the trainer – I would say it’s “Peak Gosden,” but it’s actually merely “Standard Gosden.”

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 20, 2022 at 22:16 #1612141Think its fair to say they have no more than a working relationship

August 20, 2022 at 22:26 #1612144To me it seems like gosden isn’t taking the gradual weakening of his yard particularly well
The stable stars are no more
I’m not dissapointed tbh as we rarely if ever get updates on his horses
And as an antepost punter this is annoying
Why did free wind not run in the Yorkshire Oaks for instance?
Appleby, haggas and obrein are much more open
August 20, 2022 at 22:34 #1612145Looked like heated words after Mighty Ulysses got beat too – with Dettori having plenty to say.
If he was being criticised for the ride, he clearly wasn’t having it.
And quite right too.
No love lost there any more.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 21, 2022 at 11:01 #1612183…Or could it be TRFers seeing what they want to because of their previous opinions of Gosden and their own confirmation bias?
Value Is EverythingAugust 21, 2022 at 11:04 #1612184Looked to me as though Frankie was just explaining what happened to the Mighty Ulysses.
But maybe that’s just my confirmation bias.

You’re quick to write off a trainer, FF.
Inspiral looks the best filly in Europe at 1m.
Nashwa looks the best filly in Europe at 1m2f.
Emily Upjohn looked the best filly at 1m4f before Ascot and could yet prove to be.
Stradivarius may not be quite what he was, but the stable are still doing well with him considering he’s an 8 year old.Value Is EverythingAugust 21, 2022 at 11:56 #1612189“Why did free wind not run in the Yorkshire Oaks for instance”?

Despite the last time out 1m4f victory Free Wind has already won at 1m6f, FF.
The Gosdens have said they regard a greater test of stamina as suiting her better and are looking to step her back up to 1m6f on her next start. However, it would not surprise me to eventually see her in the Champion Fillies and Mares. A race that is more likely to be run on softer going and therefore play more to Free Wind’s (stamina) strengths than the Yorkshire Oaks.
Value Is EverythingAugust 21, 2022 at 13:31 #1612198Ginger watch the Chapman interview again ….he gave Gosden the chance twice to praise Frankie …neither taken , yesterday was a chance to praise and move on …

August 21, 2022 at 13:38 #1612202Gosden’s a tool, HDLG, I know who I think the real menace is.
Dettori is a ten times better jockey than Gosden is a trainer and Gosden didn’t enough have the good grace to acknowledge the ride of the year, in fact he tried to take all the credit for the tactics himself.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 21, 2022 at 19:35 #1612244In the interview I saw HDLG, Gosden did praise Dettori, he just wasn’t going OTT like many of the media were and / or many punters expected. Of course Gosden wasn’going back on what he’s said before – and nor should he. One good ride cannot erase (what he believes to be) several poor rides of the recent past.
…And although it was a good ride by Dettori on Trawlerman, staying wide early can not be put down to his idea. Gosden’s Mutahaa did the same when winning the 2018 edition but that time under Crawley. So it’s far more likely to have been Gosden’s choice than Dettori’s anyway.
Just because people don’t like what Gosden says does not affect how he trains horses, he’s still a good trainer.
Frankie is one of the best jockeys I’ve ever seen; but imo is not as good as he was.
Value Is EverythingAugust 22, 2022 at 04:24 #1612255Frankie was speaking to Mick Fitzgerald at the start and told him exactly what his tactics were going to be, Mick Fitz then signed off with the words ‘See you in the winners enclosure’. They definitely had a plan and luckily it paid off.
Personally I thought it was a brilliant ride by Frankie, one of his best, he kept his cool alone on the far side and made sure he was a few lengths in front before he got to the bend where he came across to join the rest of the field. I don’t think Will Buick gave Frankie any help to have an ‘easy lead’ Trawlerman did that on his own merit and when passed by other horses and looking as though he would have to settle for third place Frankie got him to rally and take on Alfred Boucher, stretch his neck out and win the race by a nose.

He definitely deserved more praise than he got from Gosden for that ride and personally would like to see him back on Stradivarius again….but that would be the owners decision.

100% agree Jac.
Throughout this whole business, Gosden has displayed IMO a disgusting Victorian attitude to the whole trainer-jockey relationship and he displayed not one ounce or grace of humility, reconciliatory humility, or tact on Saturday.
In fact, Gosden came across as an arrogant, yet deeply insecure, man, unused to being challenged publicly, as he has been on social media, and determined to impose himself.
Tbh, Dettori continues to bring it upon himself a bit.
I’ve heard numerous people say this weekend: “Dettori doesn’t need the money any more so, after what Gosden said after the Ebor, why doesn’t Dettori just tell the stuck-up **** to F off and never ride for him again?”
If Gosden doesn’t look like he’s got much Group 1 material next year, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Dettori severing the links, not Gosden.

If Gosden talked with a regional accent you’d love everything about him, Chezza.
