World Cup has tough in recently but there should be some pace this year. Consider Zazou. He beat Cirrus Des Aigles cozily on polytrack in their prep race, showed a sharp sprint on fast ground in HK and beat Rio De La Plata on soft in Italy so he should handle Tapeta.
WC a ridiculous target for Silver Pond, he needs 12-15f. He’ll need a farcically run race (which shouldn’t happen) or set up an early break. But this race is so competitive… Planteur’s a star at his best, the Japanese have some serious horses, the US too, and SYT.
Note on Al Quoz runner Joy & Fun: won the race 2 years ago but it was 6f then. He’s as good as ever but the missing furlong is a negative, his optimum is 6.5-7f. If he wins he’ll scrape in like JJ The Jet Plane. The other HK horse Eagle Regiment is Joy & Fun’s equal on existing HK 5f form, first time traveler.
March 29, 2012 at 02:55 #398665Game on Dude. Seriously underestimated.
We call him GOD around these parts.
March 29, 2012 at 04:26 #398668What parts would that be Miss Woodford?

The way I look at this is very simple. AOB will have So You Think in the best for of his life for this and will want to win everything he can before the big boys start kicking him into touch.
He did the same with Fame and Glory knowing the horse had his limitation.
I fully expect So You Think to win as he likes and is a steal at 5/2.
I couldn’t care less if Aiden rode him himself I’d still back him.

Not sure what that is to mean. How many "big boys" are there? Frankel, check… Anyone else????
This race is worth $10million, why aren’t the "big boys" here? What is worth as much for them at home??
Breeding, it’s destroying racing as a contest.

I agree. Of course there’s only so much you can do without a race so he’d still need a class edge. I thought he ran below form when beaten by Cirrus Des Aigles using Snow Fairy (would’ve beaten him with a clear run) as a guide. I think we can dismiss the BC run for that reason (and the surface).
Smart Falcon is clearly Japan’s best dirt horse (Transcend second) but how strong is their dirt form? Turf far more important over there. Transcend’s 2nd last year not impressive and a result of the run-of-the-race (leading a dawdle). Smart Falcon is better but is he good enough to win? I think Game On Dude will struggle to win but might stick on for a place.
Again, get on Ambitious Dragon for the Duty Free. He has overcome crawling paces many times before & has size and acceleration to get out of trouble. The way of going and trainer are the only possible issues. The best 10-12f horse HK has had in a decade, has miler speed too. California Memory and Viva Pataca can maybe match him on ability but need much more luck in running.
March 31, 2012 at 01:20 #398851I’ll never forget the brilliant ride Joseph O’Brien gave St. Nicholas Abbey at Churchill Downs last November, even ‘Saint’ Johnny couldn’t have given him a better ride, and I think he will win the Sheema Classic tomorrow.
I will also be backing So You Think, and would do so whoever was on his back. It’s unfair to judge a jockey because he has been fortunate enough to have been born and bred in the purple. He has grown up around these horses and must know them better than anybody.
Jamie Spencer used to ride out for Coolmore and you could also say he got special priveleges being the Godson of J.P. Magnier, but they soon got rid of him when he made ‘errors of judgement’ on a couple of their top horses.
It’s all about the horses and AOB will have ensured that both St. Nicholas Abbey and So You Think have every chance to win in Meydan Saturday evening (our time). Aiden O’Brien is such a perfectionist I’m certain that Joseph would not be riding if he had not earned the right to do so.

Don’t know about breeding destroying racing. Traditionally,, The Classics, The Arc and the Breeders Cup have ruled the roost when it comes top prestige/shed value races
It seems to me The winning prize of £3,870,968 is an effort to try and change that but the timing is all to pot.
Your top 3 year old turned 4 year old is highly unlikely to turn up here whether it be Frankel, Sea the Stars or this years Derby winner.
Who are the big boys? Bit early to say until we see what the 2000 guineas and Derby have been sorted out. Excelebration looked very promising and I thought he might pick up a couple of Group 1’s but AOB must have been thinking the same thing as I believe he/they bought the horse. Good way of getting rind of one of your beiigest rivals Strong Suit could also make into a good horse. There will be plenty of them vying for top honours and I doubt if So You Think will be winning to many of the top races this season……..that’s purely personal as I think he’s a bit too slow on the uptake to be giving the likes of Frankel any sort of race and anything with a good turn of foot he’ll find hard to cope with.
Hope he wins todat but I better shut up or I’ll talk myslef out of backing him
March 31, 2012 at 09:59 #398873What is M4 and how / where can I watch it ?
No motorway jokes please!

March 31, 2012 at 14:44 #398893Eagle Regiment scratched, a huge shame. He would’ve been as big a chance as Joy and Fun.
Sole Power should be favorite in front of Joy & Fun for mine. Joy & Fun a bit classier but he’s a 6-7f horse.March 31, 2012 at 15:06 #398895What a run by Joy and Fun after slow out and squeezed out.

I’m hoping that Monterosso is a good e/w betat 20-1, I’m not too keen to take 11/8 with So You Think, even though I’d like to see him win.

Yes indeed Miss W. but who am I to complain .
I’ve reinvested a bit on Seabass at 20-1 in the Grand National. It’s still on offer at 20s with Ladbrokes and Victor Chandler, but I don’t think that will last too long, especially if Ruby decides to ride him now that Prince De Beauchene has been pulled out.
April 1, 2012 at 01:44 #398969As I watched Olivier Peslier and Michael Barzalona winning races in Dubai tonight and then was struck silent by Aidan O’briern saying that Joseph knows more about See You Then than he does I could not help thinking that Ballydoyle is losing a wheel.Colm ODonoghue rode a supreme race on DLLs but is not deemed good enough to ride the first string. What a farce.Incidentally Treasure Beach ran brilliantly and I look forward to his summer campaign in the US if he follows the trail of Cape Blanco.
