Looking through saturdays card I think this is an intriguing race and i’m convinced that there is value to be had in this race. The best form of the principals was achieved on softer ground later in the season (Indian Ink, Silk Blossom). I don’t fancy sesmen or wait watcher for similar reasons.
The two that interest me are Silca Chiave and Puggy. Puggy was a horse I was quite fond of last year and I think will be seen to better effect on this firmer ground as I thought the finsihing kick she displayed in her maiden was blunted in the softer ground and at the forecast price of 14/1 I think she is a cracking e/w bet.
Silca Chiave ran very well in the million beaten on the line on firmer ground and ran well staying on over 6f in softer ground behind Indian Ink. I think she is worth a dabble as well if the price induces an e/w bet.
Puggy though rates as good value for me. If she was trained by Stoute she would be 5-6/1…
April 21, 2007 at 00:00 #53405According to Channel 4 TV, Channon says Silca Chiave will come on a ton for the race, so that’s put me off a bit.
April 21, 2007 at 12:07 #53406Sesmen’s Prestige form isn’t too shabby and given her free-going nature a srop in trip could bring about a but more progress. She looks a too big at 9/1.
April 21, 2007 at 13:08 #53408I’m with DJ in fancying the chances of Sesmen, but I’d be concerned about Oscar Urbina taking the ride.
I can’t remember off hand if he rode Sesmen last season, but he has looked poor on a number of occasions this season.
Still, maybe worth a small interest, but it’s a difficult race to get a real handle on.
April 21, 2007 at 13:27 #53409The mighty Oscar has indeed ridden Sesmen on 3 of her 4 starts.
April 21, 2007 at 13:59 #53411Sesmen is a horse I followed last season after her maiden win and did very well out of her too so would like to see her win today.I think her Trainer Marco Botti looks to have a good future ahead of him and it could pay to follow him while he is still a relative unknown on the U.K racing sceen.
This race is very tricky imo and I did intend just watching but one of the runners made it into my notebook last season as one to watch/follow for this year and a ‘certain’ winner of a maiden.
I’m dissapointed that she,Cartimandua, is having her first run of the season at this level and not in a competitive maiden.
She caught my eye in a 6f Newmarket maiden last July.
Under pressure she stuck on for second. Jimmy Fortune wasn’t too hard on her, just pushing her out and not using the whip.
I don’t have a very good knowledge of the form book but I note that the filly behind her in fifth went on to be a 5l second to 1,000 guineas favourite Finsceal Beo in the G1 prix marcel boussac, although has since dissapointed in Dubai.
I do not think Cartimandua is a super star or anything like. In saying that it’s unlikely that any of the field are super stars. I have had some success with my ‘eye catchers’ and although it is best advised to just watch her today I at least want to flag her up as a future maiden winner, obviously presuming that she has had the natural improvement over the winter one would expect from 2-3.
I don’t know enough about Ed MacMahon to comment on wheter he often ’tilts at windmills’ but I do feel the 50/1 available is at least fair and have thus had a massive €5 e/w on her.
No doubt she’ll run badly. I’ll look very foolish. Then deservingly get ridiculed by the patrons of this web site.
But hey, you don’t have to get many 50/1 shots up to make a profit do you, lol.
Only just realised that the horse that finished in 5th behind her on her debut is also running and is trading at 16/1.
Cartimandua travelled reasonable well for alot of the way but appeared to become a bit unbalanced and was eased down considerably when her chance had gone. Only beat 2 home.I still think she’ll win her maiden.
