It has been reported in Horse and Hound that there was a drug siezure back in May at Stansted Airport.
The drugs seized included bute, steroids, anti-inflammatories and anaesthetics and were for use on horses. The drugs were seized from a private plane and were labelled ‘horse tack’.Also shown on another forum is a report of a DEFRA raid at Moorley East Farm, which is registered to Darley Stud Management. 124 veterinary medicinal products were seized here for not being licensed here, and not being imported in the proper manner.
There is no connection between these two incidents………..as yet
September 10, 2013 at 16:08 #450805Very interesting.
September 10, 2013 at 16:22 #450806Paul Bittar would make a great Basil Fawlty. Trying to square circles with increasingly preposterous explanations as the pillars of his claims crumble around him.
What’s the excuse this time? Rotten apple Al Zarooni forgot to cancel the standing order on his monthly Superdrug subscription?
September 10, 2013 at 17:14 #450808Glen , its all in that report he refuses to make public

It’s past redemption – I’m not going to miss it at all.
I note the BHA have been quick to say there is absolutely no connection between this drugs stash and horse racing – how the hell do they know that?
What they mean is "we hope there’s no connection but it we ask no questions we’ll be told no lies – so all is well in the world"

September 11, 2013 at 08:00 #450842So the BHA is saying "sshhh please move along no drugs to be seen here, don’t mention it and the subject will be forgotten…."
September 11, 2013 at 08:57 #450850The latest seizure notice, issued under regulation 41 of Veterinary Medicines Regulations and posted on the VMD website, said: "Moorley Farm East, Newmarket. 124 veterinary medicinal products were seized because they were not authorised in the UK and had not been imported into the UK in accordance with the regulations. These medicines, in varying quantities, were to be used on horses and included injectables, anaesthetics, anti-inflammatories and antibiotics."
Asked about the latest controversy to embroil Sheikh Mohammed’s equine empire, Dalham Hall Stud director Liam O’Rourke, said on Tuesday: "There’s no connection with the thoroughbred operation."
Unauthorised drugs, imported not in accordance with the regulations, for which one could perhaps be forgiven for interpreting as ‘illegally’, but not destined to be used on thoroughbreds

On what then?
And why the secrecy?
September 11, 2013 at 09:23 #450856Thing is , the whole question of Drugs and Shiek Mo’s operation is so non negotiable , so non mentionable , its a joke
Mr Bittar’s refusal to publish the entire report into Zarooni is now becoming a rope upon which racing hangs itself
what a mad bad decision not to make public , heads should roll , but wont , however when Bittar goes eventually to another corporate position , racing will still have to live with the shambles , the damage will have been done
confidence is low , I have no confidence at all in the current regulator of racing , hush up is their way forward, Bittar and Stier should go home and soon ….
in my opinion

September 11, 2013 at 09:32 #450857The two posts above should be nailed to the BHA’s front door.
British Horseracing Authority spokesman Robin Mounsey told the Post the issue was a matter for Defra. He added: "The property in question is not licensed by the BHA, and we understand it isn’t part of Darley’s racing operation."
Honestly!

Nothing sinister in drugs seizure claims trainer
By Tony Smurthwaite 7:25PM 11 SEP 2013THE endurance trainer at the centre of latest furore to hit Sheikh Mohammed’s Newmarket headquarters has insisted that there was nothing sinister about the consignment of 124 unauthorised equine medicines seized by government officials last month.
On the contrary, Jaume Punti Dachs, who trains endurance horses on part of Sheikh Mohammed’s Dalham Hall estate at Moorley Farm East in Newmarket,
said that Defra’s Veterinary Medicines Directorate was concerned only that he had bought them overseas and imported them rather than buying them in the UK
.
Punti Dachs and his wife Maria Mercedes Alvarez Ponton compete regularly in endurance sport and claim to expect such official visits. In addition to releasing a statement in which he denied any suggestion of wrongdoing,
the trainer listed the names and quantities of medication he had brought in from overseas alongside the equivalent product, some under different trade names, he had ordered later that day and which were delivered to him the following day from the Newmarket Equine Hospital.
His statement read: "My stables in Newmarket, was visited by the Defra Authorities in early August, where they searched the premises, and found normal medications that I brought to the UK and they confiscated them because they not licensed in this country.
"My wife and I compete regularly in the endurance sport, and I am proud that we hold the 2009 European Championships, and 2010 World Championship for Spain and totally expected ‘visits’ like this. These ‘visit’ are natural/routine. These are all substances that you can buy in the UK, under a different trade name, and are a standard medicine cabinet in any stables.
"I know that these medicines are lawfully and legally used in the UK.However, the make/labels of the veterinary medicines in this case may be slightly different as they were purchased by me outside the UK, and the authorities know that.
They explained to me after their visit how to source the same medicines at the Newmarket Equine Hospital, and the following day I went and got them."
The full list was published alongside the statement to "help everyone understand what we are talking about" and Punti Dachs claimed to be "fully confident that everyone will clearly see that this is a completely normal [medicine] cabinet".
He added: "In the circumstances, VMD were, entirely entitled to confiscate the products. I am fully satisfied with their actions. I must emphasize that there is no indication whatsoever or any suggestion of any wilful or careless wrongdoing."
The seizure took place because the medicines were unauthorised in the UK and had not been imported in accordance with regulations. Sheikh Mohammed’s stud director Liam O”Rourke insisted when news of the seizure broke on Tuesday that
Moorley Farm East was leased to a third party for endurance training
.
He added that there was no connection with the huge racehorse training operation centred in Newmarket and which was thrown into controversy this year by the steroids scandal perpetrated by former Godolphin trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni.
September 12, 2013 at 10:22 #450962Yeah right …all very credible indeed …if you believe it

question is if the drugs were all that legal , why not just source them locally instead of buying them abroad ??????
oooops I have just seen a pig fly ……

But surely if these were not the products/the only products, this will come out from official sources? Are Defra (or whatever they are called) going to release more information?
I imagine they are a lot cheaper to buy from abroad or they may have some vested interest in sourcing it from a particular point but Id like to see more information first.

Telegraph reader Paul?
"PM Jim Hacker: "Don’t tell me about the press. I know exactly who reads the papers: The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country, the Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country, the Times is read by people who actually do run the country, the Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country, the Financial Times is read by people who own the country, the Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country and the Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is."
Sir Humphrey: "Prime Minister, what about the people who read the Sun?"
Bernard Wooley: "Sun readers don’t care who runs the country, as long as she’s got big tits."SHL
