Just a quick question here – does anyone know if Dragon Dancer is still in training this season, or if he isn’t, what has happened to him ?
I have a soft spot for this horse and think he has been unfairly maligned in the past, despite running some excellent races in top class company. So glad he had that win at Windsor last season !

Many thanks !
May 14, 2008 at 15:20 #163445I might be cracking up (and can’t be bothered to check) but I think he ran in the Prix Ganay won by Duke of Marmalade.
Someone will confirm/rebuke that….

He ran in the Jockey Club at newmarket on 1000 Guineas day, unplaced behnf Getaway, Sixties Icon and Galactic Star. Made quite a lot of the running but faded away.
May 14, 2008 at 15:31 #163447A quick check on the racing post site will confirm that he ran in the Jockey Club Stakes at newmarket only 10 days ago, did you not watch the guineas meeting seventy four?. Close aragorn
May 14, 2008 at 15:32 #163448I knew there was a french connection somewhere (The winner not the race!!!)
Was going to say I should not have been so lazy but then I could accuse seventy four of the same thing!!!!

No, I didn’t see it – I was away that weekend visiting my sister and didn’t see any television at all.
May 14, 2008 at 16:14 #163454Speaking of Sixties Icon, good to see him back in action. One of my favourite horses, very disappointed when he lost his way so badly last year.
The write-up of the race in the RP says that a root of the problem has been found, but does not allude to what this might be.
Anybody able to shed any light?
May 14, 2008 at 16:22 #163458Believe he has had a breathing op.
May 14, 2008 at 16:25 #163460Thanks Richard.
He certainly stopped like a horse with a breathing problem last year (not including his debut win which made me fancy him for all sorts of fancy targets).
Good to see him back to something approximating form anyway – look forward to seeing him throughout the year.
May 15, 2008 at 21:51 #163774On the evidence of his last run Dragon Dancer has no place in Group races.
May 16, 2008 at 07:15 #163803Luke, off his current rating of 108 he is going to struggle to find a handicap he can run in but I imagine Geoff will try and find him a listed opportunity.
May 16, 2008 at 17:11 #163932Re. Dragon Dancer, curious as to why Darryl Holland didn’t ride – is his partnership with owner J Pearce’s horses over? (Notice he hadn’t ridden other runners owned by him this season either.)

I believe he is now based up north and decided it was too much to continue coming down and riding out for Wragg every morning and also, his agreement with Pearce ran out in December. Never rated him anyway, but very sadly Wragg is on the decline and Ivy Creek’s death could be the final straw.
May 16, 2008 at 22:59 #163977Get him over some fences!
