Rosenpur wins at Chester thus recovering and a fair bit more the £140 fine for ‘mistaken declaration’ at the same day’s York meeting. I’m sure the fact that Rosenpur was drawn 2 at Chester had absolutely nothing to do with the distraction that caused the York ‘error’.

And as usual some of those drawn high in sprints have various ailments and dont run.
Best just limit 5f races to 8 runners.

Just do the draw an hour before the race. Shouldn’t affect the turnover much, punters will still bet on it early. Job done

Thanks Landafar, but it’s too sensible, they’d never go for it

Smart thinking, Landafar. Over subscribed handicaps could be split into two divisions, x2 the dead-eight.

Donald McCain when interviewed prior to Paws For Thought finishing 3rd on Saturday stated that he was probably running the horse over a distance too far (so it proved) but he had a good draw and they had withdrawn him the day before from a race over his ideal distance but he had a poor draw. The reason given for the withdrawal was
“unsuitable ground” yet the ground was the same both days with a going stick reading of 6.9.

Why do the BHA allow this sort of thing? The horse shouldn’t have been allowed to run, they shouldn’t be allowed to declare for two races at Chester and just pick the one with the best draw.

Paws drawn 5 for Saturday, should run I suspect.
In the 4:15 Id say the horse drawn 9 will not run.
Interesting there is no cutaway for this meeting.

Honesty from Craig Benton who withdrew Twitch at Wolverhampton with stated reason ‘a bad draw’. Gist of his explanation was that Twitch had no early speed to overcome the draw so there was no point travelling 130 miles from Epsom when they had no chance!

The first race at Chester today is a 5 furlong sprint handicap. 13 runners declared. And the horse drawn in stall 13 is a non runner.

Strike me down with a feather!
