Does this mean goodbye Frankie Dettori?? I personally hope so
September 8, 2014 at 16:47 #489957I don’t wish anything bad to happen to Dettori, but I am happy for the trainer and horse. Jarnet is the superior jockey with better knowledge of the horse and the French tracks, so it can only help Treve’s cause to have him aboard.
September 8, 2014 at 19:58 #489962A bit galling to be jocked off by a 47 year old I would have thought.
Jarnet has won on her at the highest level and Frankie didn’t look the strongest in the saddle when Treve went down narrowly to Cirrus on her seasonal reappearance. It seems harsh though that the contracted jockey get’s a vote of no confidence from the trainer who had to deliver the message to the owner that his jockey isn’t deemed up to it.
May be that this is a sign that the trainer feels she needs to reunite the Arc team in order to create the spark that will get Treve back to her best. The horse was supposed to be working well at home, so it’s a bit odd that this change of jockey has been requested out of the blue.
Maybe the Treve team have seen Dettori plying his trade in the commentary box whilst working as more of a media figure, and then questioned where his heart and mind actually lie moving forward.
Perhaps, in trying to juggle two hats the result will ultimately be wearing neither.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I have no opinion on Jarnet vs Dettori as Jockeys.
However, Jarnets ride in last years ARC, on the surface at least, looked very bad. Caught wide and never really settled. Most of the superlatives came for the mare because of that situation.
Did Treve lose her opening two races because of Dettori or perhaps the trainer has been a tad complacent?? Looked short of match practice first time out and the definitely her action was wrong on the fast going last day.
A strange decision.

September 12, 2014 at 23:11 #490133It’s generally owners that have their preferences / foibles regarding jockeys.
Perhaps it is more significant that it is the trainer in this case.
It doesn’t appear to me that Dettori has done anything wrong in this case.
That said, this guy is in the TRF Hall of Fame above the likes of Pat Eddery. Career achievements that justify this ?. Laughable, in my opinion.September 15, 2014 at 06:14 #490298I bet Frankie slept well last night
September 29, 2014 at 17:18 #491087Ah, the joy of seeing a jilted jockey asked for a comment on his ex-partner.
At the start of the season Frankie had said Treve felt like she had had a jet engine fitted over the previous winter.
Fast forward to last week and asked about her chances in the Arc, the shunted jockey painted a picture of Treve as a broken down Lada, probably a cut and shut job, with a flat tyre, rust and a broken spark plug.
Miaow!!

Kieren Fallon wasn’t mincing his words when referring to her as a cripple in his weekender piece. It would be an interesting story were Treve to win the race considering her season to date and also no horse having won the race back to back for 35 years since Alleged in ’78
It’s amazing Al Shaqab could have had three runners in the biggest race of the year and their retained rider was left to take the outsider of them…how much are they paying him as a retainer? and how could you justify being passive in such a situation if you were the retained jock? As has been said above is it not the owners who usually have greatest influence in deciding who rides their horses…
October 2, 2014 at 23:25 #491239Unlikely as it will be, after her scintilating performance last year I so want to see Treve run a big race on Sunday, especially given how much flack owners and trainer get for retiring horses so early.
October 3, 2014 at 18:30 #491274Do you Flat boffins reckon a repeat of Treve’s form from last year will win her this?
