November 24, 2007 at 14:47 #126637Absolutely gutted.
November 24, 2007 at 14:57 #126639Sad news indeed. Sympathies to all concerned with the horse.
November 24, 2007 at 16:01 #126661So sad after the poor lad had had so many problems which had to be sorted out, gutted.
November 24, 2007 at 18:41 #126687R.I.P DETROIT CITY.
A wonderfully talented dual purpose horse. Had the pleasure of seeing him at Cheltenham last season. He even beat Hardy Eustace in a battle up the Cheltenham Hill – not too many can say they’ve done that.
November 24, 2007 at 19:15 #126693rip detroit city, and my very deapest sympathy to everyone who dealt with him rip.xx
November 24, 2007 at 22:13 #126772another of my favourites gone, truely brilliant at his best. In my opinion he would have been the champion had he arrived at the festival in his previous form. A very sad day. From what i can gather he fell because of a ruptured valve in his heart rather than dieing from his fall. RIP
November 25, 2007 at 09:35 #126844Wonderful horse, very sad that he’s gone.
November 25, 2007 at 11:05 #126876Goodbye Detroit.
November 25, 2007 at 15:03 #126931It’s terrible we’ve lost him. He was amazing. The poor poor thing. RIP
November 25, 2007 at 16:30 #126946very sorry for everyone connected with the horse….very sad.
November 25, 2007 at 17:20 #126958RIP Detroit City.
Such a sad way to go out.
RIP fella.
November 25, 2007 at 18:22 #126985Very sad but was not due to a bad fall. The poor chap ruptured a valve on the right hand sid eof his heart. On this occasion something that could have happened anywhere but still very very upsetting to lose such a treasured friend to is all.
November 26, 2007 at 06:41 #127086It was triggered by the fall surely?
Doesn’t matter though, it’s so sad to see his demise. Sympathies to all connections.
December 29, 2007 at 01:28 #132325I watched the race in which Detroit City had a fatal fall and i was absolutely devastated. It seems such a waste of a beautiful horse with such talent. I enjoy watching horse racing but since Detroit City, Granit Jack and others, i sometimes find it difficult. Does anybody else feel the same?
December 29, 2007 at 12:35 #132356It’s because we all feel a sense of resposibility towards these beautiful creatures, and by joining this forum you are involved in something that takes very seriously it’s role in the way they are treated.I read something recently which I’d never heard before; unlike dogs and cats that chose to live with man in a symbiotic sort of way horses were at the point of extinction when man decided he had a use for them; hunting, transport and I guess, food. It’s their very speed that makes them so fragile, and it’s their fragility that makes us love and respect them even more – we never take them for granted. There’s nothing worse for a horse than to stand neglected in a field, and the worst fate for any horse is to die of colic…..racehorses are so well looked after. There’s no more beautiful sight to me than seeing a thoroughbred horse jumping a fence…lets hope for a good safe afternoons racing today!
