Had a bet e/w on Mac’s Legend in 2.20 at Thurles, watched the race from the 2nd last fence, no mention by Des of Mac’s Legend so assumed I had lost, when ATR put the results on screen Mac’s Legend was 2nd and Des had called the wrong horses in the final part of the race.
I am sure it’s not the first time Des has got it wrong that I remember.

No ****
Yes, this could be said.“..and as they head towards the turn that leads towards the entrance of the bend that moves into the section before the entrance of the straight, it’s errm…”

March 24, 2016 at 16:36 #1239666Sorry but people slate Tommo but i would rather him than both Irish commentators
March 24, 2016 at 16:47 #1239668I think it is Des’ destiny to keel over in the commentary box – he get’s very animated

“And as they come to the last, Uranus is ten lengths clear, Donkey Punch is weakening in second and he’s a distance clear of the remainder, but this is so exciting and…I…uh…argh…Uranus has fallen into a hole…argh…argh…Donkey…Punch chins him on the…urrrrghhhh…line…”
This guy is a machine. All he does is work out and pick winners. Talk about fit. You should see him without his shirt off, serious side of beef.

Was surely a head-bobber?
*Winning distance – 2L

LMFAO
I think Donkey Punch got it by a neck…This guy is a machine. All he does is work out and pick winners. Talk about fit. You should see him without his shirt off, serious side of beef.
March 24, 2016 at 21:21 #1239719Further proof (were any required) that you don’t need to be good at your job; all that matters is getting your foot in the door.
Can’t wait to see ITV’s line-up when they take over; it’ll be the same old lot recycled again.

Totally agree I just can’t see why having Jeremy Kyle as the main host will boost the TV ratings, it’s more likely to herald a serious decline of our sport to be shown on Sky Sports when they can be bothered.
March 25, 2016 at 10:18 #1239746The fact that the man still has a job baffles me.
One of the worst commentators ever across all sports, not just racing.
June 19, 2016 at 14:20 #1252459He did it again missed the winner in the 2.15 at Gowran until it crossed the line even Matt Chapman made a comment.
June 19, 2016 at 20:04 #1252513Even apart from the mistakes, he is shockingly bad. I sometimes listen to commentaries at work – he calls the first two in a race, the whole way round. Three miles or more is torture.
June 19, 2016 at 21:26 #1252517Racing Post reported a few days ago that Des (presumably 68 as the report referenced that he reached “retirement age” three years ago) will be reducing his workload after the Galway Festival this year with “freelancers” Jerry Hannon & Peter O’Hehir expected to pick up the bulk of those meetings.
I would expect Richard Pugh to get a bit more work also, although I guess this would be around his P2P commitments.

Hopefully Johnny Burke will get some commentaries.

June 20, 2016 at 10:17 #1252563Jerry Hannon is OK and Richard Pugh is very good but for me Gary O’Brien is the best Irish commentator, but it seems he’s more interested in his ATR presenting.
Peter O’Hehir can only have the job due to his family connections – to me he sounds as though he is “on the juice” when commentating – this family of commentators has become progressively worse with each generation.
June 20, 2016 at 14:23 #1252593Quite often when I have heard him commentating, it sounds as though he has got a sweet in his mouth.
Maybe, a Polo mint.
