I don’t bet but I find this derby more than last year even a most fascinating race.We are all trying to figure out which of Aidan’s horses is best.We sometimes object to him running lots of horses yet this year even we cannot object . They are all good and perhaps Aidan does not know which is best. However the path taken by his derby winners is the one taken by F& G. So that gives us what he thought at that time. After the Guineas Murtagh said that RVW would probably not get the Derby trip. That was the only negative spoken by any of Aidan’s riders so far this year. Immediately after Murtagh spoke (the next day) Aidan said that RVW would run in the Derby! So the confusion reigns .But what a wonderful confusion to have and what a wonderful conundrum we are faced with. Who will ride what is also a big question. Will Aidan use his stable jockeys or outsiders? I am more excited about this years Derby than any before. I also wonder what is happening to the opposition Where are the English horses or the French horses? Oxx and Bolger appear to be the only challenge to Aidan. Where did Godolfin disappear to?Where is Frankie gone? He used to be the biggest name in racing and he won 2 BC races last year., How come he has no ride?Is there a change taking place in flat racing in Europe ?Godolfin seen to be focusing on the USA. The USA seems to be drug ridden and losing credibility as a racing center see the middle east and the far east as moving to the center and newmarket and England and Ireland losing out
Coolmore are certainly taking over as the No1 breeding operation in the world.May 28, 2009 at 19:06 #230725Coolmore are certainly taking over as the No1 breeding operation in the world.
That’s been the case for at least 2 years I’d say. Ask any breeder for their 5 most desirable stallions and without doubt Galileo and Giant’s Causeway would be in there, maybe even Montjeu too.
If you’d asked them last year they’d have said Sadler’s Wells and Danehill as well…
Danehill Dancer’s getting much better mares, Rock of Gibraltar’s a steady eddy, High Chaparral’s progeny are getting better. Footstepsinthesand looks like he’s already produced what could be a top class colt in Steinbeck and we still have Oratorio, Hurricane Run and Dylan Thomas to come.

Fame And Glory will be ridden by Johnny Murtagh.
Freemantle will be ridden by Ryan Moore.
May 29, 2009 at 18:17 #230937Source?
May 29, 2009 at 18:20 #230939Well it’s not a news source, I don’t know if this is true or not but just what I heard today.
Although in racing there usally not true. Especially Ballydoyle rumours.
May 29, 2009 at 18:29 #230943My Tricast
1. Fame And Glory
2. Sea The Stars
3. MontaffI think Montaff is outstanding value at 50’s and should be around the 16/1 mark, if it was Irish it would be after news it was recovering from injury and put an effort like that in, although the race can turn out to be poor.
I just hope one of those 3 horses win. Be nice to see, Sea The Stars do it, would be a nightmare for Coolmore to have such an excellent hand and not even get the winner which is possible, I think if this weather continues Sea The Stars is a serious serious contender.
I will defintely forecast Sea The Stars to beat Fame And Glory as I have a bigger bet on Fame And Glory to try and cover as I think its the top two who are going to be fighting this one out.
May 29, 2009 at 19:38 #230948Freemantle and Golden Sword will run the others to a halt. The race will start after rounding the corner. If someone goes with them they will all run themselves out of contention Which will probably be Aidan’s plan to send another after them perhaps Mot H(Otherwise they could go on and win.)then the horses with a high cruising speed will take over. Those with a high cruising speed are F&G and StSs and GA. The race will then depend on which can quicken after a mile and three. I believe it will be F&G from GA with StSs just 3rd.
BBI could upset the applecart, if his jockey has the courage to wait and wait and wait.I won’t be surprised if F&G turns out to be something specialMay 29, 2009 at 22:51 #230986Gerald,
I believe that if "Rip Van winkle" started now he still wouldn"t get 11/2m in the Derby! I also believe "Black bear island" "Gan Amhras"
and "Masterofthehorse" will become Derby types!Bearing in mind this was written last year, they currently trade as 4 of the top 6 in the betting at 6/1 8/1 7/1 and 9/1! predicting that anyone of the above makes it to the Derby is a skill, but all 4 turning up at the prices is
something that only TAPK could do! When i wrote the post they were trading at 14, 40, 50 and 36 now anyone wondering why people are calling me "Legendary" can see from the above quite clearly! Modesty forbids me
from saying anyone of "My 3" will win though!!May 29, 2009 at 22:59 #230988There might be a great horse come out of this Derby but going into it I simply can’t see anything really outstanding.
Yeh yeh, you said that about the 2000gns and already you have been converted by the Master! Of my 3, i am 100% convinced Gan Amrhas will get the trip stood on his head and think he will go on to further Group 1 success!
May 29, 2009 at 23:08 #230989Gan Amhras won’t even place, he needs softish ground, no way is he going to get that.
May 29, 2009 at 23:09 #230990Can I asked whether members feel that Crowded House is right out of the equation because of his last disappointing run and perhaps not progessing as expected from his 2yo form (assuming he’s still a runner by Monday next week)?
May 29, 2009 at 23:12 #230991I dont think he has the class to win it although he could surprise but I’d say the best he can hope for is a Top 7 finish. I’d be suspect that he can stay the distance.
May 30, 2009 at 01:31 #231017Gan Amhras won’t even place, he needs softish ground, no way is he going to get that.
If he finished 3rd in the 2000 on good to firm, I can’t wait to see what he can do on soft.
May 30, 2009 at 04:31 #231035Probably 15l behind Fame And Glory.
Doesn’t matter the ground won’t come anywhere near soft.
Gan Amhras was trained with the 2000 Guineas as the aim, just cause Bolger is hyping him up for The Derby I would take no interest in, he played down New Approach to the moon last year, on form and visually he doesn’t do it for me.
2000 Guineas, Rip Van Winkle was staying on better and probably Mastercraftsman too, just cause 3rd, 4th and 5th made ground on 2nd doesn’t take away from the fact they made no ground what so ever on the winner who quickened at will, not one of the Guineas runners who will run in The Derby will beat Sea The Stars if we get fun in the sun, if I’d have to pick one who would it be Rip Van Winkle who you could tell looking at him was a bit far off from the others preperation wise and he should come on for that more than 3rd, I’m of the view the winner could be a superstar.
We will find out though next Saturday, it’s going to be a great Derby even though its a shame most of the horses belong to one trainer.
May 30, 2009 at 14:48 #231066The Coolmore operation has always supported the Epsom Derby. They have set out to breed and race the best horses in the world . To prove that they strive to win the Derby or breed the Derby winner.Without Coolmore many of the recent derby winners would never have been there. Is that a shame? I don’t think so.Ballydoyle horses will make up much of the field. We have seen them all win or be second in the Derby trials; now we want to know which is the best?.They will all be trained by Aidan and will run on their merit; there will be a pacemaker to insure an honest race. What more could one ask?I believe the present race is the most interesting one for some time.Bolger has a contender,Oxx has a contender and Aidan has at least three contenders, maybe more. It should be a wonderful race.Perhaps a dark horse will win. Who knows?

Red at the risk of offendeding you: Where on earth do you get these rediculous ideas from.
If Gan Ahmras needed soft ground Jim Bolger had like 100 chances to run him on soft last season he is trained in Ireland you know!
The horse won on Good to Firm was beaten when he got some cut and no way on Gods earth did Jim Bolger train him like the Guineas was the last race on earth.
Jim Bolger said. "You won’t see the best of Gan Ahmras until the Derby he needs a trip". "He will run in the guineas but it’s not his race". "He could run into a place and I will be delighted if he does"
If you don’t fancy the horse by all means say so but don’t post what is blatant garbage.
How on earth do you work out the horse nees soft?
Your post sying he was trained with the guines as his aim is absolute poppycock.
Jim Bolger isn’t trying to hype the horse up. Why on earth would he? He is syaing it as he sees it and would achieve nothing else but to make a complete idiot of himself if the horse runs a bad race..
FFs think before you post man……..theren are people watching you know:roll:
