Apologies if there’s already a thread for this as I couldn’t see it.

    Cork, you weren’t far wrong.

Jango Baie just been scratched today.

Hendersons comments just over a week ago regards Lulamba and Jango Baie.

“I’d quite like to go to Newbury, it’s just a great track. To be fair it is the same day as we’ve got Jango Baie almost certainly heading towards the Denman, so it might suit us to bring them both there”.

You put the wrong word in bold: it should have been “almost“.

In Jango Baie’s absence, Haiti Couleurs has to win this easily if he’s got any sort of Gold Cup aspirations, especially as L’Homme Presse had a hard race just a fortnight ago, but he’s not going to be any price so it’s just a watching race.

    Decs…

    Haiti Couleurs
    Leave Of Absence
    L’Homme Presse
    Riskintheground

Worst Gold Cup trial of the season? Probably.

Nicky: Jango Baie will not run at Newbury. I’m not going to risk him. I spoke to Tony [Barney, owner] last night. It doesn’t matter if it’s going to be soft, heavy, or heavy, soft, it’s going to be very hard work.

It’s such a huge difference between the British and the Irish Trainers’ attitude when you look back at the Leopardstown fields from last weekend. I really hope to see the Irish winning 20+ races at the Fez.

A bit of a difference between the Denman Chase and the Dublin Racing Festival though. One is a race on bad ground this year, the other is one of the big festivals of the Irish calendar that one would expect the Irish trainers to support.

I meant to have both in bold Glad.

To me, that means unless the horse is injured, unwell or the track is unraceable, the horse will run.

Why can’t the man just shut up and say nothing at all if he’s going to backtrack so often.

There will probably be plenty of Antepost bets down this week due to those initial comments.

To counter that, GM, the caveat “almost” possibly explains the fact that the bookies were offering odds against in the ante post market: had Jango Baie been announced a definite runner, he’d have been odds-on. Now, I am no fan of the bookmakers (as regular readers will know) but I can see the logic here.

I looked at the prices on Monday evening and could not believe it was 11-8 each of two. On all known form, Jango should have been clear favourite.

If the GC is run on heavy Jango can’t possibly run of course ….

If Jango Baie wins the Gold Cup and/or Constitution Hill wins the Champion Hurdle (**NOTE** I am not saying that they will), will you shut up?

    I doubt it.

Its the current mindset of trainers these days – they wrap these horses up in so much cotton wool and race them so infrequently that they simple aren’t conditioned to be able to take more than 4 possibly 5 races a season or race on deep ground a month or so before Cheltenham.

Back in the day the top horses were running 6, 7 or sometimes 8 times a season on ground ranging from firm to heavy in handicaps (because they didn’t have the amount of races catered to them like they do today) and come back for more year in year out. Some would even then following up a NH campaign by running on the flat.

It should come as no surprise that Hendo wouldn’t run him on that ground but we know full well that if the extact same conditions come up at Cheltenham that he will run regardless because its Cheltenham and considering that it would be only his 3rd race this season we might be much more likely to see him race once more afterwards (Aintree).

Hendo’s big problem is that he tries to be a bit too forthcoming with info when perhaps he should be keeping his own counsel a little more – he probably should have just said he would only run at Newbury if the ground wasn’t too testing and left it at that.

Looking at the horse’s form, he has won twice on soft ground along with being twice a runner up on it and he was narrowly beaten on officially heavy ground in last season’s Silly Isles Novice Chase so he clearly handles testing conditions. Hendo just knows he isn’t capable of recovering from a likely tough race in time for Cheltenham, which goes back to my original point.

    Agreed, LD.

All any trainer has to say is that they don’t want to subject their horse to a hard race at this stage of the season. Sadly, those four days in March have become so disproportionately “important” that the rest of the season is losing all value.

One more question then: did Henderson shag your sister or something?

If Haiti Couleurs is to be a serious Gold Cup contender he has to hose up in this, got him at Evens.

The more I know the less I understand.

Haiti Couleurs now odds against, which is a bit surprising, so I have backed him.

Cannot understand the plunge on Leave Of Absence, personally, seeing that he is unproven on the ground and has about a stone to find on ratings, but there you go. 🤷‍♂️

I missed backing him at odds against and now I wonder if L’Homme Presse can be described as value at 2/1.
However who am I to think that her losing run of 63 runners will come to an end against Haiti Couleurs?

Well done to all who got EVS or better. But, this was far from convincing and he is at least a stone below G1/Gold Cup class. I don’t what Rebecca Curtis thinks about him, the Irish don’t have to worry a bit about him. Maybe at Fairyhouse on Easter Monday….
