He won’t Hughsie , he won’t get home in the GC so they’ll go Ryanair
February 7, 2026 at 19:33 #1753868Native River won a Welsh National and followed it up with a Gold cup. Five weeks is enough time for HC

February 7, 2026 at 23:58 #1753888For me with GW it all depends on how much energy he does or hopefully doesn’t waste early on in the race – considering just how hard he pulled in the Irish Gold Cup he had no right to stay on like he did after the last.
He won over 3m as a hurdler and over 3m1f at Aintree, so I think he will stay providing he settles, he has already massively outstayed his flat bred pedigree to begin with. The better the ground and the quicker the early pace is, it would help him settle better but if it is very soft they won’t go as fast and that could be an issue.
In the end they might just have to bite the bullet and drop him in right out the back to get him to settle first and foremost – if they can get that done, I for one wouldn’t be surprised if he turned the Irish Gold Cup form around with F2F, who I think is a lot more vunerable going that extra 2F.
February 8, 2026 at 02:58 #1753897Even if he did settle he won’t get home , ask yourself why Paul doesn’t want to ride him
February 8, 2026 at 04:30 #1753899I would think that the fact that he’s won two Gold Cups on Galopin might play a part in his decision.
But the old champ was well beaten on Sunday, so who’s to say that Townend wouldn’t change his mind next time?
I personally believe that Garlic Bread has a better chance of winning the Ryanair, which is beginning to look really weak, than the Gold Cup.
Getting back to the matter at hand, Haiti Couleurs jumps, stays and will have arguably the best jockey in the race on his back. Anyone who is writing off his chances at this stage is talking nonsense.
February 8, 2026 at 10:00 #1753909I think most of us would be cheering should Haiti Couleurs win the Gold Cup.
The more I know the less I understand.
February 8, 2026 at 11:42 #1753913I’ll be screaming bend , throwing tenners around , if the ground isn’t to firm I believe Galopin is in the 3 , I just don’t buy into this ” he’s gone ” narrative ”
February 8, 2026 at 11:50 #1753916Both Timeform and RPR have Galopin well below his best this season. There’s always the possibility that he bounces back to his best – and I hope he does – but the trend at the moment is definitely downwards. At the age of ten, time is not on his side.
February 8, 2026 at 12:00 #1753919That injury meant he came in late , first thing Willie said was he felt that first run which he needed left a mark going into the Irish GC , he is likely not as good but he’s still very good , Gaelic will go Ryanir and Paul will go GDC , I’ll be amazed if FTF gets the distance ..
February 8, 2026 at 16:21 #1753966It could very well pay to be ridden from off the pace this year if you consider that HC, GDC, TJM and Affordale Fury all like to force the pace from the start and so they could quite easily cut each others throats upfront and thus be left as sitting ducks late on for a horse that has sat off that pace.
February 8, 2026 at 17:04 #1753975I more likely to think it will be a Native like GC where horses can’t get into it
