Considering all the ‘where am I going to run my horse’ comments it is nothing short of pathetic that all of our trainers couldn’t muster one entry between them. Is Nicholls the only one who looks at the Irish fixtures?

Rite of passage is a horse that interests me. How fit he is, and how he takes to hurdles is guesswork, but if he’s ready and jumping he might just beat the lot of them, including Dunguib and Quel Spirit over 18f. It’s a pitty many of the Irish trainer don’t have much regard for punters over here, because i would have liked to have heard something about ROP with regards to a festival target.

He was ready to run on Stephens’ Day but he banged his head in the box on the way from the Curragh to Leopardstown and was taken out of the maiden hurdle.

I would assume he is likely to avoid Dunguib come the festival. DK thought Rite Of Passage was a good thing in the bumper last year and was amazed at how easy Dunguib beat him. He told Fenton that he should consider running Dunguib in the Melbourne Cup!

Looking at how Rite Of Passage stayed the 2 miles in the November Handicap giving lumps of weight to Donnas Palm in bottomless ground – I think he’s made for the 2m4 trip over hurdles.

From every angle you look at Rite it of Passage should make an excellent hurdler but until they jump one in public? Donna’s Palm may not be a top class flat horse but no slouch either so his form looks very decent.

But to take on Dunguib with a horse like him first time up is not the normal way you would go. Most trainers would be thinking Market Rasen on a Tuesday to get some experience into the horse but with Cheltenham just round the corner they may be thinking in for a penny in for a pound.

If he does turn up and it’s Dunguib by a few lengths comfortably and the rest nowhere then Dunguib will be shorter for the Supreme than a group horse would in a Hamilton seller  .

Of course I am hoping from a financial point of view nothing turns up..Just Dunguib on his lonesome will do me fine :P

Stilvi you have a point with regards to the apparent lack of interest from England based trainers but unless you are confident you can beat Dunguib why go?. You can’t even be sure the race will cut up badly enough to assure a place unless yours is real top drawer.

If he top drawer there are plenty good novice hurdles coming up between now and Chelters he can go for win and not have a hard race prior to your main target.

My point is why wait to Cheltenham to get some idea of how good Dunguib is? If Henderson beat him with a third string the Supreme becomes a totally different race.

Rite Of Passage will start off over timber on either Saturday or Sunday at Leopardstown Fist

I think Nicky is well aware of how good Dunguib is. We are talking hear about a horse who would be damn near favourite for the Champion Hurdle if his trainer decided to go that way.

What your suggesting just isn’t the way things work Stilvi..think about it….two of the 3 have only just won their maiden hurdles and every day counts between now and Chelters.

Nicky will be preparing all 3 for the big day hoping they will show enough improvement to run, so it’s doubtful they would be 100% at this time.

Punjabi Binocular, Zaynar, Go Native, Solwhit and Co will be avoiding each other like the plaque for here on in if they can. Wait and see how many want to take on Zaynar or Binocular in their next race when it’s so close to Cheltenham. No different on English turf than it is in Ireland….. be next to nothing turn up.

These novices aren’t any different and no one wants to go looking for a hard race at this time.

Those who do take on Dunguib are out to try and pick up place money and probably won’t turn up at Cheltenham.

Novices by the very name are different. You can speculate but nobody knows how good or otherwise Dunguib is. This race will tell us nothing as to how he stands relative to the best of our novices. It doesn’t matter to me from a betting angle because I have backed him for both races but I would hate to think part of the reason for stepping Quantativeeasing up in trip would be that they are scared of taking on Dunguib.

Seeing Dunguib run here will be worth the entry fee alone!

A bit of 6 and half a dozen with him Stilvi. Nicky surely wouldn’t have him on his mind for the Supreme as he looks more of a staying type?

Him apart, if I had a hurdler good enough to go to Cheltenham I think I would be wanting to know if he stayed. If he did I would be going for the Neptune and avoiding Dunguib like the plague. When the whole racing world is saying "This is a machine" you have to take heed.

Not knocking your cavalier attitude as fortune favours the brave. At least it does until someone knocks them flat on their backsides………pretty much how I see the Supreme. Those who go lose! Unless of course Dunquib goes wrong or flops but that’s extremely doubtful.

Admitedly it was against third-raters but the way Quantativeeasing quickened at Newcastle did not suggest he was short of speed. Although his full sister did the majority of her winning at longer trips they did think she was quick enough to contest two Champion Hurdles.

Actually she did all of her winning over longer trips so he’s probably got a bit more speed than she had. If he does improve for a trip he could be a right bet for the Neptune if that’s where he goes.

Will be interesting if Some Present runs up against General Miller at Cheltenham this weekend.

I really do fancy Loosen My Load as a great EW Bet if he is in the Supreme.

With Some Present finishing behind Dunguib last year at Chelts and being beaten by LML at Chelts over hurdles earlier this season it would give some pretty decent form lines to work with.

Just be nice to know which races these horses are going for.

    Makes it fun though
