Yeah- the stayers’ race at the Ebor meeting is the Lonsdale Stakes, which mysteriously became a Cup in 2004.

Wikipedia says it was changed to ‘Cup’ status when promoted to being a Group 2. Perhaps you require Group 2 as minimum to be called a ‘Cup’? Don’t know.

Also strangely, 78 yards were added to the race distance in 2007, making the distance 2m 58 yards. Presume there was some logic for it, but I’m buggered if I can see it.

Flying visit is probably one of the most exposed in the field but there,s plenty solid form to be seen , played e.w

Tatling- I think 78yards may have been added due to the course being remeassured, they probably measured it originally with some old technology that wasn’t very accurate.

High Definition another Japan coming here not 100% ready to fire and shaping like the best horse?

I’ve sided with Gear Up as his trainer’s record in the Dante is recent years has been strong.

I’ve split stakes with him and Royal Champion. I mean in theory, RC hasn’t a hope on his last run, but surely that’s not his best + the 4th won at Chester. Varian’s trial horses have been successful, and i presume this guy is the best of them, or expected to be.

Japan had an injury which held him back, HD probably missed few days due to his blood count but it would not be the same as what happened with Japan

    Very interesting race

    High definition probably not 100%

Gear up and hurricane lane likely both already need 12f+

Royal champion for the yard doing well in these trials

Uncle bryn interesting if settling but yard not fully firing

Then flying visit ties in with current derby fav bolshoi ballet

No bet but very much looking forward to it

Bolshoi Ballet and Mohaafeth backers will be happy enough after that I should think. Agree I think FF, if he comes on for that maybe the Irish Derby though. Not Epsom you wouldn’t think.

Depends how fit HD actually was today. If that was a Santa Barbara type run then connections will be happy.

The only Dante also-ran I can remember winning at Epsom was Workforce, and his saddle slipped at York.

May is definitely the best month for racing. Guineas, Chester meeting, lingfield trial, Dante, Lockinge all packed up together which lead to Derby.
