DANNY MULLINS incurred a three-day ban arising from the Bashful Beauty affair following a Turf Club referral hearing on Monday that lasted three and a half hours.
The rider was found guilty of breaching Rule 213, which relates to not reporting anything to the stewards that may have affected the horse’s running on October 11 in a 2m handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse.
The otherwise run-of-the-mill contest, won by It’s All An Act, garnered headlines when trainer Norman Lee was highly critical of Mullins in a running and riding enquiry.
Mullins, Lee argued, "had failed to ride his charge with determination and in doing so had failed to obtain the best possible placing" on the seven-year-old, who finished seventh.
In the inquiry, Mullins told the stewards that the gelding felt dead in running. At Monday’s referral, it was ruled that Mullins should have reported this to the acting stewards immediately after the race.
As well as a three-day ban, which Mullins is to serve on December 20, 21 and 31, he was ordered to pay €500 towards the cost of the hearing.
Mullins said: "I’m happy I was cleared of any serious wrongdoing and haven’t really thought about any possible appeal."
IMO I can’t say I am surprised. I never thought he tried much anyway and what is the difference between wrong doing and serious wrong doing. Would he have been happy if found of just wrong doing.
