If we cant get a huge crowd for the Irish Champion Stakes….we may aswell put up the white flag.
A Grundy vs Bustino sort of Matchup.
If the crowds dont come i give up…..
August 26, 2009 at 00:11 #245787There’ll be no more that seven or eight thousand there as usual. Judging by BF at the moment there have to be serious doubts over Sea The Stars’ participation anyway.
August 26, 2009 at 00:19 #245789it was a stupid idea last year putting it on the same day as the hurley final.
most people was gonna be watching the final more than new approach.
end of the day….August 26, 2009 at 00:26 #245793Any chance of Gan [edit] Amhras turning up?
August 26, 2009 at 00:33 #245795Not entered Gerald I’m afraid:

August 26, 2009 at 01:39 #245805Sorry, my fault. I meant for the Irish Champion Stakes.
August 26, 2009 at 01:56 #245810Doncaster hav turned their premir race into a chav filled piss up witha crap under card.
August 26, 2009 at 02:21 #245812Heffernan has always had a jockey’s agent – just recently changed his. I would be fascinated to know who these "irish racing elders" are who are not happy with O’Brien going to Doncaster every year – particularly as he does not.
"The title of this thread is something you’d expect on a rag tabloid paper."
I have found a future career as a HACK

Yes while it will only affect AOB and John Murtagh mostly its disappointing that they couldnt find different Saturdays for the racing after all there is terrible racing on a lot of Saturdays.
A lot of Irish Racing elders are seriously annoyed that AOB goes to Doncaster on Leger day when they believe he should support the Irish one. I think that argument is pretty pointless as many dont care about the Irish Leger and the English one is a Bumper for flat Horses. But nevertheless this change of the National to the Card makes sure he wont be going anywhere now even if the GAA was the reason but they dont even get a full crowd most years for the Hurling and Kilkenny isnt the hotbed of Racing supporters.
My point is the Doncaster Leger Saturday is a part of the weekend racing instead of the Racing Weekend.
On the Heff point…turns out the man has got himself a Agent for the first time ever last month. I cant see him taking a ride on a "BIG" horse in the race. Afterall his climbdown from the Drumbeat affair was rather Humilating for the man. Mind you Colm should get more rides….that fella is quality in the saddle
August 26, 2009 at 03:35 #245819AOB did the clean sweep of Irish Classics last year and he didnt bother show up for the Leger to Collect the special commeration that had signed off on for his achievement especially since it was noy if but how far Septimus won the race.
The Turf Club/HRI but especially the Turf Club are very old style thinking group of men. These men tried to Close down Vincent O Brien in his pomp…..and while there not as old school as they used to be…you can be sure they were not happy that Aiden sent his better half to pick up the piece of art and silverware that was bestowed upon him.
Also the Irish Leger attracted a pityful crowd last year so needed to do something drastic to change it. Profound Beauty vs Yeats is a very good for the race as the past few renewals were so terrible on quality and now with the national stakes they can compete for the media attention with Doncaster.
Heffernan i always thought had employed Ryan McElliott(Irish Field fame)as a freelance kind of Doer for himself but he seems that he wanted a new full time Jockey agent.
I wouldnt be suprised if he left to try new pastures. Its hard to see mind you as he be no where if it wasnt for O Brien.
August 26, 2009 at 21:37 #245947Maybe they should spend less money on the bloody Soccer rights
I don’t follow it that closely, but recent publicity had led me to believe that Rugby is the number one ‘bloody’ sport.

August 26, 2009 at 21:51 #245953Seeing as Ireland is a completely different country to th UK, why shouldn’t they run races on days that suit them?
The Irish Leger is, by and large, just another staying race for older hoses. Its not been won by many 3 year olds in recent times. If AOB had a good 3yo stayer chances are the horse will be at Donny where he should be, not at the Curragh.
Where the jockeys and trainers go is an irrelevance really. There is not a shortage of good pilots on either side of the Irish Sea and I am not worried if atrainer is not on hand to collect the winners prize. In future, it wont be remembered if the trainer was present on the day, only who the winning trainer was.
August 26, 2009 at 21:54 #245955The RTE coverage of racing is dreadful. Ted Walsh’s form analysis extends to reading the last three runs word for word from the card and Piggott’s interviews are cringeworthy – she is justifiably patronised by Weld, Bolger et al when she shoves the microphone in from of them.
It is obvious Gleeson was schooled at the BBC, among his many other faults as he loves to trot out the ‘professionals are backing this’ line beloved by Loughran even when there isn’t a bean being turned-over in the ring.August 26, 2009 at 22:02 #245962Aah, Judy Gleeson. Now there’s a pretty face.
