GD will need something like a Golden Ace incident or the leaders going off at a suicidal pace and the race falling apart to a closer to win. There are far stronger stayers at that trip over that course that he will face……I think he would do well to make the frame in a Gold Cup if the usual suspects show up with their ‘A’ game.
That being said, I don’t think they really have much of a choice at this stage but to roll the dice and try it until they have unrefutable proof that he isn’t up to winning a Gold Cup and have to look elsewhere.
January 24, 2026 at 14:54 #1751590I agree that Grey Dawning should be allowed to run this season, hes a Betfair Chase winner and Ahoy Senor ran in the Gold Cup last season when useless.
January 24, 2026 at 14:58 #1751591He couldn’t beat an 11 year old L homme , nothing against the admiral Williams horse but that is miles and miles off GC form , if he runs he’ll be well beaten
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
January 24, 2026 at 15:24 #1751616Thought it was a curious run from Flooring Porter. Obviously been off the track a long time and I think they had him in the Cleeve at one point but changed tack to come here and Cromwell mentioned it being a run to get him qualified for the Aintree National. Considering he has to go from the front, it appeared as though today was a jog around, see if the handicapper will help him out. No effort at all to get him prominent, no major effort at all until he was beat to my eyes. Impossible to know if hes still got the ability but I just found the whole thing curious
January 24, 2026 at 15:29 #1751622Tin it was training in public however nothing will be said , considering his best jumps form is from the front questions should , Cromwell …is Cromwell

January 24, 2026 at 15:49 #1751649At no point was Flooring Porter was put into that race to win. For a horse that runs from the front it was farcical and that’s not talking through my pocket I was on Grey Dawning.
The more I know the less I understand.

January 24, 2026 at 15:56 #1751656Watching the Opening Show this morning Ruby went as close as he could to saying Flooring Porter wouldn’t be trying a yard.
January 24, 2026 at 16:51 #1751692Not strong enough form to win a Gold Cup- the winner comes from the KG or February’s race at Leopardstown. Grey Dawning, giving 6lbs to the winner, only ran a couple of pounds below form (attributable to clouting 2 out) but that is mid 160’s form and that won’t be good enough this year.
January 24, 2026 at 16:52 #1751693Mid …. I’d say low 160s at a push

January 24, 2026 at 17:56 #1751727“He (Flooring Porter) needed to finish in the first four in a steeplechase of three miles or further to qualify for the Grand National.
Mission accomplished.”
As predicted by Ruby Walsh on the Road To Cheltenham on Thursday.
“Flooring had a lovely schooling job , wonder if the stewards will say anything”
“Flooring Porter…Not sure what to make of it as it is almost like they were there just to get a run into him.”
You mean a Cromwell horse was blatantly schooled in public and the stewards didn’t see it?
You jest.
January 25, 2026 at 21:13 #1751924Flooring Porter now qualified for Aintree National so will get entry and also highly likely to run at festival before in stayers hurdle, he ran well considering he had been off for season injured
