Can’t find a bet here……
Decent field though, and hope most of them line up.
January 22, 2019 at 18:26 #1393281Really nice race, might be worth taking the 12/1 about Minella Rocco with Hills. Don’t necessarily think he’ll win but I can see him going off significantly shorter. Race probably best left alone at this stage, however.
January 22, 2019 at 20:05 #1393285Only one winner if the legend turns up.
I’m not betting in the actual race but this is last chance saloon to top up on the gold cup. Still around 40.0 on betfair after he wins this cant be bigger than 14/1 for gold.
If the legend runs
The legend winsI’m very pleased that T8zzard appears to have decided to run here after declaring he would go straight to the festival.
EE will be rated 166+ after the win
and will enter the gold cup with the perfect form figures of 1/2/1/1.This is music to my ears learning of this entry.
January 22, 2019 at 20:37 #1393289If your best hope for gold cup glory was a flat track bully with a tendency to jump right then you could understand why Nicholls.is desperate to find another gold cup horse. This looks desperation from Nicholls and this Frodon thing will be left trailing, I don’t expect him to get home and he is no match for the monster that EE has developed into this season.
I dont expect Might Bite to turn up in the gold cup so understandably hendo wants a replacement runner.
I dont think Terrefort will turn up here but the team have nothing to fear if he does. He should run in the Ryan air and most probably will.Vator will probably run but I dont believe he would get close to the legend.
Black Corton isnt as good as last season , EE is much much better. This horse cant get close to the legend.
Mineola Rocco will surely need the run and will most likely be past his best having peaked in the 2017 gold cup. Has other entries also.
Neither American or Allyson Monterg would trouble the legend.
It’s a grade 1 horse running against grade 2 opposition.
Absolutely only one winner.
THE LEGEND HIMSELF
ELEGANT ESCAPE
January 23, 2019 at 12:39 #1393319Your horse will certainly get the trip, potato, whereas there are doubts over a few of these. If the weather forecast pans out, it will be good ground, I think. Does that worry you for EE? If Bryony gets the pace right on Frodon and he jumps as he did last time, every fence is going to be a chance to gain a length or two. EE’s jumping has improved, but without his usual soft ground, I wonder if he might throw in quite a few errors?
January 23, 2019 at 16:18 #1393344Elegant Escape is in no way ground dependant? He goes on any surface.
His jumping is class. Yes he can make the occasional mistake as did many previous winners of the gold cup but he has never once looked like falling or parting company with his jockey in any race start.
Absolutely nothing wrong with jumping, is 3 wins from 4 on gd/asft and has proven he is effective on good ground. the ground will be no excuse whichever way it goes?
This race is merely a training exercise for the champ in waiting.
January 23, 2019 at 16:44 #1393347Well, you don’t know if he’s ground dependent yet, certainly as far as reproducing his best is concerned. He’s been beaten all three runs on good, albeit they were in 2017 and he has improved. Three from four on good to soft does not prove he acts on good.
In your place my worry would be that he has to make this a fierce stamina test. Frodon, though a front-runner, is hardly likely to do this as Bryony knows his stamina is not confirmed. So will EE take him on upfront and, if so, how will EE’s jumping hold out?
And, absolutely nothing wrong with his jumping? He is getting better, but the close-up on his last 6 chases all feature an adverse comment on his jumping.
January 23, 2019 at 17:33 #1393350The horses sire is dubai destination and many of his offspring prefer good ground. So on breeding good ground should not be any problem.
He has ran 3 times on good ground in his career.
Last time on his chase debut at chepstow in October of 2017. He traveled beautifully on the ground AMD it was a wonderful chase debut from the legend. If you actually watched that race you would see that he is perfectly effective on good ground.
The two other occasions he ran on good ground were in grade 1 hurdles at cheltenham and aintree festival. It certainly wasn’t the ground beating him in these races.
For all we know good ground may be his best ground but as it is we can see he is in no way ground dependent and goes on any surface (the sign of a truly great racehorse).
Of course Frodon will front run and make it a test of stamina? It would be a pointless exercise for him not to do that.
Nichols needs to find out if the horse can stay, if he cant stay then there is no point in going for the gold cup AMD he can go Ryan air.He will be picked off with ease by the legend. No doubt whatsoever.
This is the gold cup winner
this is ELEGANT ESCAPE
January 23, 2019 at 21:06 #1393378The team have predicted that Elegant Escape will give Frodon the beating of his life here.
THE TEAM DONT NEED NO WHIP
TO SEE OFF THIS DRIPSIMPLY A WARM UP RACE
FOR THE GOLD CUP ACE
January 23, 2019 at 22:10 #1393386I’m undecided here between Elegant Escape to win, or American each way. I think it’s a race where it makes sense to wait until the day.
January 23, 2019 at 22:58 #1393389Of course Frodon will front run and make it a test of stamina? It would be a pointless exercise for him not to do that.
Nicholls said this week that it’s a valuable race in itself and worth winning. So front running but muddling the pace would seem a worthwhile tactic for the smaller, nippier horse to try to win. He’s not going to run the guts out of him to see if he stays. And I know you had to make your poem rhyme but I’d hardly call Frodon a drip. Given that his last two runs, including his win here giving away lumps of weight despite being the smallest, youngest horse, featured tbe word “game” in the RP notes. His win at this meeting last year- putting 17 lengths between himself and the 2nd horse coming up the hill in a bog- was hardly that of a drip either.
January 24, 2019 at 01:53 #1393399Elegant eacape is hardly going to let frodon dictate a stop Start ride from the front. If they were to play that game the equine motorbike would just cruise on by and crank it up. EE made all in his cheltenham warm up race last year.
Nichols may say ‘the race is a valuable prize’ but the entire purpose of running here is to learn if he stays therefor its imperative that his stamina is tested, regardless of what is or isnt publically said.
Frodon is NOT a stayer and that’s why he hasn’t been trained as one. He is a 3rd season chaser who is having the dice rolled one month before the gold cup by a trainer who is desperate to win the gold cup. This move tells us more about clan des obeaux than it does frodon.
Merely a chancer who will get put in his place by a boss.
GREEN GREEN GET A GRIP
ITS MY POETIC LICENSE TO USE THE WORD DRIP
ITS JUST A NON STAYER
COMING UP AGAINST THE GAMES TOP PLAYER
NOW EE DOUBTERS PLEASE DONT FLIP
BUT ON MARCH 15TH MY CUP IS GOLD AND ITS CHAMPAGNE THAT I SIP
FRODON BEATING ELEGANT ESCAPE IS THE BIGGEST JOKE I EVER DID HEAR
BY THE END OF THE HILL THE JOKER WONT EVEN BE NEAR
ITS JUST AN.EXERCISE THE JOCKEYS JOB IS TO STEAR
NO HORSE HAS BEEN BORN YET THAT THE LEGEND NEEDS TO FEAR
January 24, 2019 at 04:23 #1393401I’m undecided here between Elegant Escape to win, or American each way. I think it’s a race where it makes sense to wait until the day.
If you are sure American will run then back it ew now as will probably only he 3 or 4 runners go to post.
Tizzard had previously stated that EE was going straight to gold cup without another run so I’m not 100% EE will run though it looks like he is going to and it makes sense to run him so hopefully he will turn up.
Not backing in this race as I’m not Sure he will turn up so just topped up on the gold cup bet. Wont be any bigger than 5/4 on the day if he does turn up though.
January 24, 2019 at 10:13 #1393416There is a young man called potato
Who gets himself into a state-o
His expressions in verse
Will simply get worse
If you say that his horse is not great-oJanuary 24, 2019 at 23:02 #1393528Very good Steeplechasing.
Frodon winning would be fantastic, I think the pair of them are one of the big stories of the NH Season, but I can see Potato being happy after this race.
January 25, 2019 at 11:08 #1393569American out, so it’s Elegant Escape for me. Backed him for the Gold Cup (shrewd I know) so I’d be hopeful he’ll go close here.
January 25, 2019 at 11:15 #1393571Two of my favourite horses in training may appear here – Frodon and Minella Rocco after a year out.
I am also excited to see how Elegant Escape takes them on. I suspect he’ll win.
Minella Rocco – this is a tester to set him up for his National bid, surely?
