Deep breath LOL
I am going to be radical here and say Hendo will have the first two in this!!
Frodon wants a shorter trip and even though he has ran a couple of times over three miles IMO he is best over two and a half and the Ryanair is where he should be aiming!!
Allyson Monterg isn’t good enough and at racing pace will be let down at some point by his jumping.
Minella Rocco will need the run and this is probably a sighter to see where they stand with him .
Elegant Escape ( and I am ready for the potato backlash ) is an out and out stayer and Frodon with his quick jumping is likely to get him out of his comfort zone which will lead to mistakes! That leaves the two Henderson horses …
Terrefort looked decidedly useful last year and if you forgive his last run when he finished lame when he was odds on to beat EE then 7/2 is a huge price !!
Valtor was ultra impressive last time at Ascot and if your eyes are to be believed then he never came off the bridle when winning a Class One sixty grand handicap and deserves this step up and is 11/2.I did say it might be radical but I feel these two can both be backed and have done the forecast too!!
Good Luck Guys
January 25, 2019 at 17:17 #1393616Alison Moyet should have retired when the eighties ended. Absolutely no hope here.
Minella Loco when last seen was regressisve. Having started the season on.165 ended it 10lb lower on 155 Had problems not been seen for a year.
This race wont be its target. Maybe will have spin out get tailed off and pulled up here for tomorrow is a new day.Valtor has never swam in his life. Aged 10 years old he isnt lowering himself into the shallow end of the swimming pool he is being pushed straight in at the deep end and he isnt wearing armbands. He meets a legend who is not far away from his lifetime best condition, he meets a beast. He will wish he had of stayed put in France after the team have finished with him.
The unbeatable Terrefort was odds on to beat The Legend back at Sandown. 50 lengths behind jumped to sleep and annihilated by a legend who was on his comeback, EE was left with so much to work on for that seasonal debut that Tizzard said after he would have been delighted to get 2nd.
The beating the beast gave to terrefort that day has left the horse a psychological wreck ever since and it’s no wonder he has been.hiding for the 76 days since.
In that 76 day time period the legend has ran 2nd in the hennesey carrying a mammoth weight on his bounce run and bolted up in the welsh national.
It could be a 100 length beating this time as my boy is really starting to come of age now.Frodon is getting the beating of his life. That simple.
The Legend himself will have progressed again at a mindblowing rate since he won the welsh national. Even the most sceptical of all will be left in no doubt after this one.
January 25, 2019 at 17:33 #1393618Is it possible to post on this thread without the Spud commenting ?

January 25, 2019 at 20:52 #1393652I’ve got four of them bet for The Gold Cup in some shape or form, but I can’t help but hope Frodon runs a big race here.
Without a doubt my horse of the season so far, and if he could only drift a couple of points, then I’d bet him.
No bet for now though, and think it looks a very interesting race. Should reveal plenty.
January 25, 2019 at 22:36 #1393665Interesting race. I can’t have Frodon, altough he has some impressive runs this season. Everytime he steps out of handicap company he has been beaten by miles. Terrefort has too many question marks after his last run at Sandown and Valtor won an average handicap. I like Elegant Escape, but I wonder if he can cope with a fast run race only a few weeks after the Welsh National. That leaves me with my old pal Minella Rocco. I’m glad he is back on track. He got course and distance form. It is a bit of a gamble after such a long time, but if he is jumping okay then he must have a chance.
Minella Rocco 8/1
January 26, 2019 at 00:02 #1393683One for watching. Anything could happen as Frodon won’t stay, Elegant Escape is too slow, Terrefort’s first run on anything but soft, Valtor needs soft, Alysson Monterg miles out of depth, Minella Rocco will either tail off or p!ss up, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this turns out a rare example of a race with no winner. Good luck if you’re betting.
January 26, 2019 at 12:42 #1393782I think you’re a brave man to get heavily involved on anything here. Frodon has a big question mark to answer at the trip, despite how well he’s finished out his races. He’s not one you could sneak around on.
Elegant Escape for me, also has a question mark about the trip in that it could well be too short. He looks like a National horse through and through for me and looked out of his comfort zone in the RSA.
Terrefort for me has it all to prove after Sandown so I’ll take a punt at the prices on two at 15/2: Minella Rocco and Valtor.
If Minella Rocco is ready to roll, he should well win on ratings and Valtor could well have this race run to suit and if he’s come on for Ascot could well be a Gold Cup horse in disguise.
Valtor 15/2
Minella Rocco 15/1January 26, 2019 at 14:13 #1393792He did nothing last year, after having been runner up in the Gold Cup the season before
but if the wind op has had any benefit to him then Minella Rocco at 15/2
would have a very decent chance here. He looked to be travelling well last time out in the
Irish Gold Cup, but folded far too easily with 2 to go. Maybe that’s why they thought about
the wind op. Whether that’s been the problem I don’t know, but I’m inclined to agree with
Joe’s (Steeplechasing) assessment, he will either tail off or p!ss up. I’m hoping it’s the
latter of those two.January 26, 2019 at 14:18 #1393793Our Legend, they sent from heaven,
Elegant Escape be thy Name.
Thy gold cup to come.
Thy GC will be won on earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day the cotswold chase.
And forgive us our doubters,
As we forgive them that bet against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power and the glory
Forever and everELEGANT ESCAPE

WE ARE ALL BLESSED TO SEE THIS LEGEND OF A RACEHORSE
January 26, 2019 at 14:34 #1393799Bryony got frodon home there, was a fantastic ride, he wont get the trip in the gold cup though, ryanair looks made for him, if something went alongside him up the front it would have spoiled him, which will happen in the GC
Elegent escape cant win a gold cup if he cant outstay a 2m5f horse in the cotswold
January 26, 2019 at 14:35 #1393800Frodon despite winning, was clearly running out of stamina, Ryanair is the race for him, Elegant Escape isn’t next nor near good enough to win a gold cup, grand national maybe, too slow to win a grade 1 over 3miles
January 26, 2019 at 14:38 #1393801I think something went wrong for EE close home. I hope they show the head on. Either Frodon suddenly took his ground or he might have gone wrong.
January 26, 2019 at 14:45 #1393803What a terrific horse Frodon is, tough and honest as the day is long. It’s not
often that I agree with Matt Chapman, but I think he would stand a far better
chance in the Ryanair. He got the trip today, although I don’t think there was
much left in the tank going up the hill. It will be tougher in the Gold Cup, and
it’s doubtful if he would get things all his own way up front, so for me I hope
he goes for the Ryanair. You were right Joe, Minella Rocco would either tail off or p!ss up, unfortunately
the wind op didn’t seem to make any difference, or he must have needed the race
badly, and he trailed home. Oh well
January 26, 2019 at 14:46 #1393804Think it was the former Joe, looked like Frodon just kinked slightly and took his ground.
Either way, EE has no chance of winning a gold cup
