Hi All,
I believe a few of you have also been following Corrybrough and Bankable with interest.
Corry is in a group 3 6f sprint and Bankable is in a Listed contest over 1m 2f.
The trip for Bankable is only a niggling concern for me, very happy to back Corry.
Currently Evns and 2/1 on BF – respectively.
Any reasons not to get stuck in?
Thanks,
Zip

There was much more than the draw that conspired against Bankable at Ascot.
Slowly away, he then got himself behind the group of horses that were 5/6 lengths adrift of the main bunch and had to come around the outside of the whole field, leaving himself around 12l to make up to get into contention. This – and his main problem, the drying ground – made it an altogether insufficient stamina test on the day, illustrates to me what was a blinding run in the circumstances, and though such as Al Shemali will let him know he’s had a race, I fully expect him to show that his Juddmonte International entry is in no way over-optimistic.July 19, 2008 at 09:16 #173741Bankable was not unlucky in the Ascot race, as many at the time suggested he was.
.
A strong contender for least informed post of the year.
Did you watch the Ascot race? If you think he wasn’t disadvantaged by the way that race unfolded, I would suggest you find a new hobby.

Sorry TDK, but as it’s in context with this thread, I’d say you’re wrong to oppose Corrybrough (RP today) as he can only improve for the step up to 6f.
Time will tell.July 19, 2008 at 09:48 #173750You must have read my mind.
I was up bright and breezy to back the pair.
Hopefully Corrybrough will not meet with traffic problems. I think the six will suit. I think Bankable will appreciate the step up in distance too. He’s still progressing and I’ll be surprised if he gets beat.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
July 19, 2008 at 09:48 #173751He can win, RH, but I’m not sure Newbury is his track and if he gets too far behind today, he will struggle to beat these. I certainly don’t think he is any bargain at 6-5.
July 19, 2008 at 09:59 #173755i still feel if bankable had as much in hand as his trainer suggested he would have gone much closer at ascot however he should win this race today although i still think he will be a better horse with cut in the ground
July 19, 2008 at 10:31 #173759Time to get the direct debit on Dark Missile today out today. ALso will be having a few quid on the extremely tough Beckermet who looks a possible candidate for a relatively easy lead today.
July 19, 2008 at 10:37 #173763Initial post has been edited accordingly.
A polite request to refrain from such childish nonsense in the future, thank you!.
July 19, 2008 at 19:16 #173833If you believe that Bankable has run to the same level of form today as he did when beaten in the Hunt Cup, then yes Firefox, your opinion has been vindicated. However, I’d suggest you are in a minority.
July 19, 2008 at 19:36 #173836I think today’s result vindicated my post don’t you agree..
It has shown you to have very little understanding of horse racing. You seem to be just about able to grasp whether a horse has won or lost a race, but beyond that you seem to struggle a bit….
July 19, 2008 at 20:01 #173838Havent seen todays race yet so couldnt offer any firm opinions, however Bankable has run 7 times now and has yet to beat a single Group quality opponent imo. He’d want to start putting out over the next run or two before he goes in the overhyped and disapointing file.
July 19, 2008 at 20:30 #173840IMO bankable was given a hell of a lot to do in a very competitive race at ascot and wasnt disgraced, today once again he has not been disgraced.
Id say about 115 is where he is at at the minute or thereabouts, not Henry the navigator but not a mug either, could see godolphin buying up.
July 19, 2008 at 20:48 #173842You appear to be putting words into my mouth, firefox.
I didn’t back Bankable today (I thought he was about the right price but no particular value) but do think a) he was significantly better than the bare form suggested at Ascot and b) is more than capable of winning a Pattern race.
Nothing that happened today altered that view.
July 19, 2008 at 21:21 #173846Surely given that hes quite easily beaten a subsequent grp three winner at Goodwood…then he is likely to find a a group three (at least) somewhere or other?
Isnt grp three part of "the Pattern"?
Or am i missing something….?
He wasnt exactly stuffed by a horse without ability today was he?
(didnt back him btw)
July 19, 2008 at 21:26 #173848who cares about bankable not running to form…. its saturday.. nothing runs to form. racing on a saturday is run for families not punters
July 19, 2008 at 22:22 #173866Your correct Clivex, Lady Gloria did win that Group 3 at Epsom, but for me that was a glorified Listed race for fillies and mares run in a slow time won with a very clever ride. Subsequent form has borne that out excluding Barshiba who never handled Epsom that day.
I’ve watched todays race a few times. My biggest concerns are how far he drifted off a straight line when running at max from 2 furlongs out and how despite appearing to be travelling the quicker at about 100yards out seemed to check slightly when coming up alongside the winner and seemingly failed to go through with his effort. He didnt exactly seem legless after the the winning post either. When you combine that with all the playup before the Hunt Cup perhaps he’s not the most resolute of horses or not a horse entirely in love with the game and is happier when he can dominate inferior types. That said he’s clearly talented and with some ease in the ground may have a pattern race in him, although I cant see him reaching the dizzy heights.
One to be wary of in anything strongly contested imo.
