With all that said, I don’t think I’ve ever been less excited about a flat season, none of this bunch excite me at all, not just over the middle distances but over the sprint/mile trips as well. Even the stayers look dire with the top horse injured for the season.

At least we have our Japanese wonder horse to look forward to wherever that turns up.

I’m sorry you feel better that way, Ben.

Complete opposite for me – lots to look forward to, and some of it tomorrow.

Which horses are you looking forward to this year Ian?

To be honest my memory is atrocious, there are probably loads of horses I saw last year that I thought “ooo can’t wait to see that next season” that I’ve completely forgotten about. I tend to be incredibly impulsive emotionally too so when I first glance oddschecker and see uninspiring horses I think “ah what a load of s***” without bothering to do any deeper research.

Loads – Epictetus tomorrow at Epsom, Flying Honours at Sandown Park on Friday (where I’ve felt sure all winter he’d reappear), Auguste Rodin and Little Big Bear in the 2,000 Guineas, Meditate in the 1,000 Guineas, Tahiyra wherever she goes (still unconvinced her trainer will send her to Newmarket), Prix Marcel Boussac and recent Prix De La Grotte winner Blue Rose Cen in the Poule D’Essai Des Pouliches (French 1,000 Guineas), Forte and Tapit Trice in the Kentucky Derby, a host of older horses and there will be 2yos I haven’t even heard of yet.

Desert Crown’s return and a potential clash (fingers crossed) with Adayar and Bay Bridge in the Brigadier Gerard at Sandown

Cheers Ian I’ll get looking through that bunch now! Little Big Bear could certainly make some horse if he’s as effective over a mile, if he’s as good as one hopes I could see him dominating that distance for the next season or two!

And LD I forgot all about Desert Crown lol, there’s my goldfish brain coming into play again!!

    Likely won’t have a bet

But westover is a horse I have high hopes for this year

Strikes me as the type to improve plenty from 3 to 4 and is in my 10 to follow

Will hopefully get me off to a flyer in this on friday

Hurricane Lane to me didn’t seem to handle Epsom that well in the Derby but I guess whenever possible he likely goes whereever Adayar doesn’t.

Westover for me, you will likely know pretty early what chance he has depending on whether he can be settled….nice that Hornby is back on but more likely because others were claimed. If you take his form with Equinox literally, he should be a good thing here but we all know how things like that work out.

Tunnes is interesting as on ratings (OR 120) he is right in the mix and will likely be the pace angle (although I wouldn’t be surprised if Ryan tries to Luxembourg it on Point Lonsdale – who is the lowest rated of the field) but most of Tunnes best form is on soft or heavy although he did finish 9th in the Japan Cup on good to firm (the quickest he has run on).

    Could get very tactical.

This looks a great race and one I’ll just watch. Never overlook German raiders.

Surprised tunnes is even coming over given the ground, his form suggest he’s better with plenty of dig in the ground

I’d hope westover will sit just off tunnes and kick for home nice and early to use his huge stride

The first 2f will be key for him, I’m hoping he will have matured a bit and be less headstrong

This is very contradictory, but I’ve bet Tunnes at 14-1 for all I can really see Hurricane Lane winning. I just think that Tunnes is maybe slightly overpriced

The slowest Tunnes has won on is good to soft and whilst his Japan Cup placing of 9th on good to firm ground would indicate he wasn’t suited by it he was only beaten just under 7L.

German horses are pretty much always underestimated when leaving home but don’t forget that he is a half brother to the Arc winner Torquator Tasso (who was able to win on good ground) and I don’t see it being good to firm at Epsom but whatever he does tomorrow, he could be an interesting candidate for the Arc (33-1 with Bet365) this season especially if we get ground like last year (on soft and heavy ground he has won by 6L, 8L and 10L).

Not sure what happens in this tomorrow, suspect Westover will either hose up or he’ll rip Hornby’s arms out of their sockets after a furlong. Don’t like the lack of a prep for Emily Upjohn and she’s not the most laid back madam herself although she was better in the hood. Don’t think the 3yo version of Hurricane Lane is back, very weak G2 last time, fell into his lap. Point Lonsdale was hideous at Chester. I don’t recall a flat group 1 horse at any trip/track off the bridle as much as he was. The German horse probably wants some overly generous watering from Cooper which isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

Having watched the German st ledger, tunnes wouldn’t be out of place winning here.
He’d need the course to have been swamped overnight but haven’t they been piling it on?
