Can’t help but agree with the above sentiments. As solid a horse as Twice Over is, I can never get the picture of New Approach smashing him at Newmarket two years ago out of my head. I thought the race was there for Mawatheeq’s taking, but we’ll never know that now. It’s a pity Lope De Vega or Dick Turpin didn’t run.
July 4, 2010 at 12:29 #304570Your comments leads me to wonder how such a race could be a group one race. One paced winner, plodders, horses flattered and others unfit.Incidentally you made no comment on the last horse. Was he pulled up? The whole comment was a devistating reflection on the Coral Eclipse. I have to agree with you.In Ireland it would be called an egg and spoon race. Right? Henry picking up left overs. How sad.
If Henry rates
Twice Over
as a genuine Group 1 horse, then thats good enough for me! reet hard still hasn"t got the ability to seperate the "Fame from the Glory"!!
July 4, 2010 at 12:45 #304575I find it sad that this race is now deemed more important that The Ascot Gold Cup or The St Leger.
IMO and I doubt if many will agree, The Ascot Gold Cup is still the most prestigeous flat race run in The UKJuly 4, 2010 at 13:15 #304585I find it sad that this race is now deemed more important that The Ascot Gold Cup or The St Leger.

Two great horses fighting out a head bobbling finish after a proper gallop, for a four year old AOA ran a blinder, let’s hope one or both turns out to somewhere near as good as Ardross, my choice for British racehorse of the century, Le Moss, Levmoss or Yeats.
International Flat Horse of The Century probably lies between Noblesse and Ribot (before my time)July 4, 2010 at 15:19 #304617Which century would that be? For me Secretariate takes the (sea) biscuit.
July 5, 2010 at 09:57 #304752The 2nd was almost certainly highly flattered,
Quite savage?!
Thought MDeering was right not a bad ew at 40’s!
His form from the Prix Guillaume D’Ornano last year don’t look too bad…
fluke win or not!
It’s true to say that he is rather hit or mega miss!
Shame that ‘Mawa’ never got going…

Savage? – not really, Zen.
Sri Putra was awarded an OR of 110 for his his French G2 win – the 2nd in that race has never been allocated an OR, but his best form outside that race was winning a listed race by a head; the 3rd was allocated 108. Sri Putra was subsequently raised to 111 (his highest ever mark) for a one length win in a gp3.
Twice Over ran off 123 on Saturday and beat SP by half a length – either SP has suddenly found 11lbs improvement on his 13th start, or TO has run well below form. Given the history and running style of both horses, and the way Saturday’s race was run, I know which I’d favour.July 5, 2010 at 21:26 #304890"The Ante-Post King wrote:
Dar re mi has as much chance of winning the Eclipse as Profound Beauty has winning the King George! No Chance!
I get it…..the Mighty Twice Over is such a superior animal Dar Re Mei has no chance ………talk about walking on a tightrope……If you didn’t have that certificate saying you were now sane I’d swear you were mad.
If you didn"t have the certificate to say you were mad,i"d swear you were sane after the above comment!

July 30, 2010 at 21:45 #310097For my first post on the forum I was going to try to live up to my name by posting the following on the day of the race, but I registered too late and my authorisation to post got lost. Now, several weeks later it is no longer of “Marginal” Value but no value at all. But now that I am allowed to post here I cannot let a good statistic go to waste: – In his four races before the Eclipse, Twice Over finished in front of nineteen individual Group One winners. I guess some of those were out of form or running over the wrong distance, but if so why were they running in such big races as the Breeders Cup Classic and the Dubai World Cup? But beating an average of nearly five Group One winners per race, it could mean that although some have called the Eclipse an egg and spoon race perhaps Twice Over is not an unworthy winner.
