Wasn’t Deutschland losing lengths at his hurdles last Summer?
Is his jumping any better?
March 15, 2010 at 17:35 #282529Well spotted Gerald, the ATR site won’t load up for me but yes I think you’re right, he’s also been beaten fair and square off lower hurdle marks. Not all things are rosy in the German garden.
March 15, 2010 at 17:39 #282532Like the look of the other Mullins horse, C’Est Ca or Lucy Wadhams horse, if they run. Her horses were kept pretty fit when the weather was bad by using the Newmarket gallops. Thought I’d keep an eye on her….
March 15, 2010 at 18:21 #282547Jeez, there’s a concern about the ground, as well as the hurdling . . .
30Jul09 Galway ( 16 Y ,RPR139 )
It’s very simple. His jumping just wasn’t good enough. He was let down by it and the ground drying out a bit probably didn’t help either. Considering where he was in mid field running down to the second last, we’re happy enough to pick up Euro 50,000 for being second. – Willie Mullins, trainer
Deutschland is a jumper not a hurdler. He uses his hindlegs taking off at his hurdles the way a chaser does instead of his shoulders as a good hurdler would. – – Ruby Walsh, jockey11Jan09 Leopardstown ( 16 Y ,RPR136 )
His jumping let him down. Coming back from running over fences, he was too deliberate early in the race and that meant him losing his place. Had he jumped better he would have gone close. – Ruby Walsh, jockey
31Dec06 Punchestown ( 16 Hy ,RPR121 )
He was bought by his owner at Newmarket as a replacement for Holy Orders and I think he paid 70,000 for him. I think he’ll improve from that but the soft ground could be the key as I’m not sure how he’d handle good ground. – Willie Mullins, trainer
March 15, 2010 at 18:24 #282548Glad to hear he can at least jump fences, given that he was given an entry for the Grand National!

appears Alan King has this race by the nuts then.
Not sure what to make of Wishfull Thinking – any quotes for him by any chance?
March 15, 2010 at 18:31 #282550Deutschland has got a bit of class, as evidenced by the Flat, that is hidden by him spending time in the air.
It could easily be the case that he is one of the horses at the meeting that is adversely affected by the run-in being shortened from the last hurdle.

He is progressing with racing and he is in the Neptune but we have the option of the EBF Final at Sandown on the Saturday before Cheltenham.-P J Hobbs, trainer
Erm, looks like he’ll be running on Wednesday then, in one race or another.

Lake Legend – vast majority of form on right-handed speed tracks and plenty of weight
Sir Harry Ormesher again doubt about stiff track and needs to improve considerably on anything shown so far
Wishfull Thinking potentially best of the three but again all form right-handed – wouldn’t be out of place in the Neptune
March 15, 2010 at 20:23 #282581As I describe in detail in the opening post, previous track form is irrelevant for this race

I didn’t say it was – I just suggested there were considerable doubts about the two horses you have backed.
March 15, 2010 at 20:42 #282588I can’t find fault as they both have perfect profiles
March 15, 2010 at 20:58 #282592Spirit River, has won at Chelt (a positive all the same) and was travelling very well in the Totesport where he blundered bady three out and came to a standstill. Best bet of the week IMO

finished better than 10th — 5Most were shortish prices.
Horrendous.
March 15, 2010 at 22:18 #282630Sir Harry Ormesher. Had a 5-minute look at the race and he ticks all the trends boxes. Got him at 16s the other day with Mr James.
March 15, 2010 at 22:22 #282633I see On Raglan Road is in to 15’s on Betfair. With Scriptwriter currently 45 in the pecking order would that suggest that Johnson is likely to give him his chance?
