Only 1 of the last 8 winners carried over 11st to victory.
(Top weight Kicks For Free 11-12 just beaten in 2008)
“I still kick myself for messing up his handicap mark over hurdles last season. He surprised me when winning first time out at Kempton, and a rise of 10lb cost him victory in the Coral Cup as he was only beaten a whisker” (Paul Nicholls on Kicks For Free).Coming into the race – performance of winner lto – most recent first
1111611U3The first 3 home in 2009 had all won lto, from 6 qualifiers.
The obvious money-spinner shortlist has been pointed out:
Lake Legend
Wishfull Thinking
Sir Harry OrmesherAll have had 3 runs, all have 20f form, Lake Legend has been "put away" the most with an 81 day break, and all three would probably prefer dry ground and are the right kind of age.
Chicago Grey’s been concrete-booted and Beshabar is a non-runner.
The trio to break the money-spinner trend? All have nice-ish profiles but…
Mamlook – his 2 more recent runs have allowed the handicapper to measure him fully.
Time Electric – 8yo and concern is mainly the run lto over 26f on soft, unusual prep suggesting pace issues for this race.
Deutschland – by far the most interesting…was mixing it and then some in a Grade 1 chase (Powers Gold Cup 20f good ground) not long ago, chase rating of 145 and here he is off 134, with form in big-fields in the bank. Has been give 1 hurdles run only so either this has been the plan or there’s been a problem. Slight query as to whether he will find anything up the hill as maybe he has outclassed inferior rivals for his wins. His run lto certainly suggests he can be in the mix here.Shortlist so far
Lake Legend (backed)
Wishfull Thinking
Sir Harry Ormesher (backed)
DeutschlandMarch 15, 2010 at 11:38 #282444Good work BB, I am very interested in and a big fan of Chicago Grey..although the weight carrying stats are obviously a worry.
March 15, 2010 at 11:45 #282445Deutschland hacks up!
March 15, 2010 at 11:46 #282447Yeah would have been listed had he been off around his Irish mark but he’s been given a bit of the P’Tit Fute treatment from last year
Very tough for him off 151.March 15, 2010 at 11:47 #282449Ruby likely to ride the Deutsch? Slight personal reservations about his win chance but that aside he looks one of the best treated.

Following Sway’s defection to the Mares’ race tomorrow it’s Wishfull Thinking for me.
March 15, 2010 at 12:18 #282454Beshebar to miss this in favour of Aintree.
Looked likely this was going to happen judging by recent comments…..
March 15, 2010 at 12:35 #282455Is Mourad running? Because if not then Ruby will be on Deutschland, who has a cracking chance imo.
March 15, 2010 at 15:16 #282490Mourad is now officially a non runner (RP)

Must admit I hadn’t read about any doubts and I guess none of the punters who made him one of the market movers had either. Reasons sound fairly dubious again – how likely is it that they will get soft ground at Aintree and would the sharp track suit him in any case?
Personally, I will not be shedding a tear if the rains come on Thursday/Friday and they get no run at all out of Tataniano as well.
March 15, 2010 at 15:52 #282496Findlay stated openly on several occasions he was far from a certain runner due to the ground (to be fair).

He has only won one race on ground worse than good to soft. Chances are it will be good to soft on Wednesday.
March 15, 2010 at 15:56 #282499Deutschland has been smashed off the boards today
Best price 10/1 now from 20/1 this morning
March 15, 2010 at 15:58 #282501Must have a great chance imo…..

He was being backed yesterday presumably by people in the know about Mourad. Doubtful stayer?
March 15, 2010 at 16:07 #282505I’m not backing him anyway
Looks like a 2-miler to me
March 15, 2010 at 16:51 #282516Mourad was the ace up my sleeve. Such a pitty he ain’t running. I think Deutschland has been hammered in by default by the bookies anticipation.
