Nathan, I could imagine that….

But, what about his other horses? Does he think that everything’s alright or is it just “a bit of a bug”???
March 4, 2024 at 14:35 #1683554Well not exactly a surprise, wonder whether this will encourage them to give him one more extra run next season (i.e 3 runs before Cheltenham) seeing as he only ran once this season?
March 4, 2024 at 14:39 #1683555Will he run again this season? On Saturday, Henderson suggested he would even if he missed Cheltenham. But the only options are Aintree over 2m 4f and Punchestown and taking on the Mullins battalion in their own backyard.
I can’t see Henderson taking him to Punchestown now.

He possibly would have had another run already but had a bad scope
Depending on what route they go, if they stay hurdles I don’t see him having any more than 2 before the Champion Hurdle. Hopefully Nicky gives him more but probably 3 maxGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 4, 2024 at 15:59 #1683561One believes one kept away from the fence and called the denouement here correctly.
Love this horse – wins for me when I need him to, sneezes for me when I need him to.
Get well soon, Constitution Hill, but not in time to get declared on Wednesday in what would be the volte face of the century.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 4, 2024 at 16:35 #1683564Henderson could send him to France but chances of that are less than zero. Too much chance of getting beaten and he wouldn’t want that.
Still he’s definitely the best horse stabled in the UK.
March 4, 2024 at 16:36 #1683565Henderson said in his statement it’s their intention to reclaim the crown in 2025.
What price would he be now I wonder? And what price would people consider steaming into? 5/1??
March 4, 2024 at 16:41 #1683566Nathan – I had my doubts they would have run him in the Bula even before the bad scope came up.
I can’t see him running again this season – no chance of him going to Aintree over 2m4f off the back of these issues (even ignoring the fact it was his least impressive career performance to date) and as we have said he doesn’t seem remotely interested in going to Ireland, which to me seems odd considering the many lbs he has in hand.
As I have said before his season writes itself and we will likely only see him in the Fighting Fifth/Christmas Hurdle/Champion Hurdle (obviously weather dependant), I just don’t want to hear Hendo say anything about having limited options to where else he can run him……..it is disingenuous.
March 4, 2024 at 16:59 #1683569“Disingenuous” is one way of putting it, LD.

Henderson is clearly still sore that his precious conditions hurdle at Sandown in February has been taken away, where he could run a 1/12 chance in the middle of a televised Saturday card without caring that it generated next to nothing for the Levy.
March 4, 2024 at 17:02 #1683570History is against Constitution Hill. Only two horses have won non consecutive Champion Hurdles – Comedy Of Errors and Hurricane Fly. At least Constitution Hill is more than up to their standard.
The betting for the 2025 Champion Hurdle will be interesting, especially if State Man hacks up in eight days time.
March 4, 2024 at 17:29 #1683572There is one other race he could run in, the Scottish Champion Hurdle. Ideal track and distance for CH.
It’s a limited handicap with a 20lb weight range, so he’d carry 11-12 and everything else would be on 10-6. A good test, but one I suspect most of would expect him to pass if he was 100%. It’s not until April 20th, so plenty of time to resolve his health issues.
Of course Henderson won’t even consider it, although he did once run My Tent or Yours in the race under top weight a few weeks after he’d finished a neck second in the Champion. But he was owned by JP McManus and we all know that he makes the decisions about where and when to run, not the trainer.
March 4, 2024 at 17:29 #1683573State Man has won eight Grade 1s and has an OR of 169 – the disrespect for him in some quarters is woeful.
He’s already a better horse than numerous Champion Hurdlers of yesteryear.
I hope he wins half the track next Tuesday to underline the point (“err, and because you’ve got 6/1, Ian.” “Oh, yeah, that too.”)

March 4, 2024 at 18:04 #1683578I think the only way State Man would get the proper respect is if he were somehow able to beat CH with no excuses.
SM is on a hiding to nothing next week as anything less than him winning as CH did last year will be held against him and even if he does win like that, it will be with the asterix that he only won it because CH missed the race.
APR – There are plenty of other races (apart from the Scottish Champion Hurdle) that CH could run in through the season, like:
Elite Hurdle
Ascot Hurdle (the welfare issue race)
Matheson Hurdle (a likely early clash with State Man)
Bula (International) Hurdle
Betfair Hurdle
Irish Champion Hurdle (another likely clash with State Man)
Kingwell Hurdle
Punchestown Champion Hurdle – (potentially a 4th clash of the season with State Man) and a race Hendo has won with Punjabi (who went on to win a Champion Hurdle afterwards) and Buveur d’Air (who was already the dual Champion Hurdler at the time)March 4, 2024 at 18:09 #1683579“Doubt we will ever see the horse race again. I wondered that as well. If Henderson’s word is taken at face value, there has clearly been an issue with this horse since about mid-January.
I will be surprised if he is seen on a racecourse again this season.

——————————–Rubbish.
He’s got a virus which is going through the yard at the moment.
Just take a look at Henderson’s form over the last 10 days.Value Is EverythingMarch 4, 2024 at 18:47 #1683582“A good test”
Yes, if he’s looking in and reading it, I suspect you lost Nicky Henderson after ill-advisedly (though correctly) using the word “test,” Alan.
