Just a thought, Nathan – instead of sticking Constitution Hill in multiples at 1/2, why not stick him in multiples with William Hill at the 7/2 to win one more Champion Hurdle?
He could yet then go chasing if he wins next March and if for whatever reason (career-ending injury aside) he doesn’t win next March your bet isn’t technically dead in the water – you might get another go in 2025!
Just saying!

Agree GM. He must have been one of the handicap certainties of all time when he won the County.
But he has no chance of ever beating Constitution Hill if the latter stays sound.
September 19, 2023 at 20:04 #1663678“If you took 12s for him to only win one Champion Hurdle when does it pay out?”
Good point, RTB. I am still having to wait on Ladbrokes to pay me out on my bet on Liz Truss not being Prime Minister in December 2024.
September 19, 2023 at 20:06 #1663679Wouldn’t surprise me if this was State Man’s last season over hurdles though. He has plenty of size about him and looks like a fence could bring more improvement from him.
Glad connections are trying again anyway and those of IEP are going too (I think will be suited to a return to 2m and probably only went further due to Facile Vega being Mullins Supreme horse – IEP has won over 12F in France and doesn’t look short of speed). You can’t run from one horse and you can’t win if you don’t turn up and as we are dealing with horses there is no guarantee CH turns up in the same form come March.
All manner of things can go wrong and we know just how close CH came to clipping the top bar of the final flight at Cheltenham a la Annie Power and how unimpressive he was at Aintree at the business end of that race…..repeats of that and that could easily be the difference for a rival to take advantage of.
Could be an even more tactical race this time round (depending how many horses Mullins throws at the race – he has 6 of the top 9 in the betting!) and you also wonder if all the main players get to the Festival in one piece (and unless they clash beforehand) which horse will Townsend ride.

And people have to wait for endowment policies on mortgages to mature – but they eventually do.
The certainty is that CAS will be getting paid out there – and the wait will surely make it all the sweeter when he does.

I hope C Hill has more than 4 races this year; the Irish and Punchestown Champion hurdles must be tempting targets
September 19, 2023 at 20:21 #1663683At least the pay out on Truss will be just in time for Christmas. I will head straight down to the pub to raise a glass to her in gratitude.
September 19, 2023 at 20:23 #1663684I’d be really disappointed if Marine Nationale were sent chasing. His Supreme win was only just shy of 3 lengths slower than the Champion Hurdle on the clock and he looked very impressive.
He’d be the one I’d be most afraid of were I Henderson although I agree the Mullins pair are possibles too.
And who knows what may yet emerge.Obviously at this stage Constitution Hill is the much more likely winner but if he were beat I reckon they’d send him chasing so I think you are backing the field against him at 12/1 next March and that, for me, is a solid value proposition.

Well, here’s a collector’s item – me and David Cormack in agreement on something, and a betting-related matter too.
No true racing fan wants to see Constitution Hill get beat, let alone injured, but 12/1 is just too big in this uncertain game and though it goes against the grain for any racing purist to take it, surely it’s the value in the four-outcome book with the William Hill Organisation.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 19, 2023 at 20:53 #1663688Marine Nationale Arkle bound and unless CH’s form falls off a cliff in the next couple of seasons I don’t see him ever going chasing simply because for them the only reason for it was to do the Champion Hurdle/Gold Cup double but now all three of the individuals involved are seemingly in agreement that they don’t believe he will stay the trip because of the great speed he shows at home and in his races.
I do find Buckley bemoaning people complaining over his decision to stick to hurdles a little odd when it was pretty much he himself who started the whole thing into a debate in the first place in suggesting that he wanted to try to emulate Dawn Run’s achievement……..a mare who incidently had already won a French Champion Hurdle (which is just shy of the 3m2F Gold Cup distance itself) prior to going chasing.
September 19, 2023 at 21:03 #1663689It was also Buckley who was giving it all the talk about going to Punchestown and taking on Honeysuckle when Constitution Hill was still a novice. Henderson soon squashed that idea.
September 19, 2023 at 21:07 #1663690I’ll see if I can stick the 7/2 in with the football weekend bets Ian…

Every year Mullins will race his horses in the races they have the best chance of winning
He never sets anything regard who will be running where in stone, look at Vautour for example
if horses get injured or doesn’t run to standard he’ll happily switch things around in a heart beatGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026

True – but the mercenary in me is very tempted to take it. The only thing putting me off is RTB’s point of when exactly would Hills pay out?

…almost enough to make me change my mind
September 19, 2023 at 21:23 #1663694Can’t combined multiples to the “special” but doesn’t seem to be a stake limit either so that’s something at least if playing
