Glad my closed question …. Your answer ….
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 21, 2026 at 20:06 #1755796“So Glad you put a 175 rating above winning 3 champion hurdles”
Let me explain this very slowly for you:
Not talking about specific horses here (I know, that’s probably already too complicated for you to follow), but Horse A could win three Champion Hurdles and run to ratings of, say, 170, 168 and 166 in those three races.
Horse B, with a rating of 175, is better than Horse A with those three Champion Hurdle wins. That isn’t opinion: it’s simple maths.
175 > 170, 168 or 166.
February 21, 2026 at 20:08 #1755797Glad a closed question is yes or no ….. have another go , also your 2 horses at this point neither are running in the Champion hurdle ….

February 21, 2026 at 20:09 #1755798Simple maths.
And that’s my last word to you in this thread. As previously mentioned, one shouldn’t waste one’s time arguing with an idiot.

February 21, 2026 at 21:03 #1755811They’re betting the farm on Yogi. After Cheltenham his name will be BooBoo
February 21, 2026 at 21:10 #1755812Disappointing from Hendo as we know from previous comments from him that schooling at home has/had been fine going into the races where he has subsequently fallen, so clearly jumping well at home over the old style hurdles has little correlation to jumping (or not jumping) the white hurdles in an actual race, so a complete waste of time continuing down that route.
If they really wanted a better idea, then Hendo really should try to get as close to replicating what he would face at Cheltenham as possible and that would mean bringing in a row of the white hurdles to school him over and see what happens then……somehow I very much doubt that will be happening.
Quite frankly, if only two horses turned up for the Champion Hurdle and CH was one of them, at this point, I would still have grave doubts about his ability to jump a clean round. Friday showed that the engine is still there but that is wholly irrelevant if the horse can’t jump and pretty much all recent evidence tells us he can’t.
The lengths they are going to, to try and convince themselves that he should go back to hurdling really should be a massive red flag for not doing it and after Friday, I really struggle to see why this isn’t an easy no brainer decision to simply do what is best for the horse and continue the remainder of his career on the flat.
February 21, 2026 at 21:16 #1755813I ( should ) be very surprised if they send CH back over hurdles because, if so, what was the point of Southwell ?
Surely last night was about testing his credentials for the flat, not to boost his confidence
An emphatic victory surely means there’s no need to risk hurdling again. His connections and fans can now look forward to a new adventure with himI think the new hurdles are proving an issue for certain horses, particularly those who were schooled and raced over traditional hurdles and occasionally flicked through the top of the old birch ones – these new ones fall differently when hit, some horses are putting their landing leg down later, if at all, and I’ve seen lots of strange looking falls during the last couple of seasons.

The original point of Southwell was because they had Sir Gino for the Champion hurdle in mid January (fresh from strolling up against race fit horses at Christmas) at the time when the Southwell race was being tailored specially for CH with the extra prize money and all the razz. Then, after Sir G bust himself, they got Yogi on the case for CH. They still had to go to Southwell rather than the Kingwell because a) it would have looked very churlish to get all the special treatment from Southwell then not bother turning up to the race designed for you and b) it gave a bit more time for the Yogi schooling, plus if he fell on his face in the Kingwell it squashes one dream, whereas to go to Southwell keeps both dreams alive. The Kingwell was Schrodingers hurdle race, Southwell was a way of avoiding looking inside the box, whilst still doing something more purposeful and less likely to generate accusations of cowardice than a Newbury gallop.
Keeping dreams alive as long as possible for owners is one of the most important skills for trainers. Unless you think the dream unrealistic and it clashes too much with your plans, then you run Spindleberry at Leopardstown (for example), pat the owners’ slumped shoulders and console them with the mares’ chase.
February 21, 2026 at 21:45 #1755819hen, after Sir G bust himself, they got Yogi on the case for CH.
You’re sure about that, green? Don’t you think they had Yogi for some while on their mind?
It looks pretty bad, if you consider that the Donnellys would have another CH horse in Lulamba and you just go straight to Yogi after your no.1 horse injures himself that badly.
February 21, 2026 at 21:48 #1755820Why didn’t they get Yogi last summer

February 21, 2026 at 21:53 #1755821February 21, 2026 at 21:56 #1755822Thanks for that green. Hope the horse isn’t too confused about that many Flat and Jumping sessions.

Well, I suppose three day eventers have to practise dresssage, cross country and showjumping. I had been sniggering to myself about the Hill’s gentle stalls practice, popping out, cantering a few strides across an indoor arena and pulling up (had to smile at Frank Hickey’s description of lads falling out of pubs quicker) but in hindsight it makes perfect sense if you want to keep the horse relaxed for a potential champion hurdle start and it didn’t really matter that he broke slowly in the flat maiden. It’s probably easier to move on to razzing them up to ping the start like a greyhound than it is to go the other way and blunt a hair trigger.
February 21, 2026 at 22:32 #1755827Disappointing that we are now going to have another Henderson circus relating to whether Constitution Hill runs in the Champion Hurdle.
The risks to the horse and the reputation of the sport are simply too great in my view, and I wish they would just draw a line under his Jumps career.
If the horse goes and wins, which he well could, it will still have been a reckless decision.
