That was unbelievable to do that at 9yo after all those falls.
I said it a few years ago and people thought I was crazy. At 4yo/5yo, Constitution Hill could have mixed it with the very best flat horses in Europe over 1m2f/1m4f. He’s a freak and we didn’t get a chance to see it because of cautious Nicky.
He’d have won multiple Group 1s in my opinion.February 20, 2026 at 19:41 #1755389Oh my life. I wish I was there.
February 20, 2026 at 19:41 #1755390Melbourne Cup.
February 20, 2026 at 19:41 #1755391Irish St Leger
Yes, and also weaker Group 1s for older horses. Like the ones they run in Germany. But connections won’t be keen to travel with him.
February 20, 2026 at 19:42 #1755393Still Pound For Pound the best Hurdler of all time regardless of the falls. Nothing would’ve gotten near this horse in his prime, Istabraq included.
February 20, 2026 at 19:43 #1755394I’ve got a horrible feeling he’ll go to Cheltenham now
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 20, 2026 at 19:43 #1755395Dubacilla, he’s not a 2 miler on the flat. He’s always been a speed machine.
February 20, 2026 at 19:45 #1755396GM Istabraq won 3 champions … the hills last 4 hurdle runs FF5F … that’s fact , I get people love him but Jesus let’s keep things serious
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 20, 2026 at 19:45 #1755397Maybe it’s just me, but i thought Nico just looked nervous on him the last couple of races; that prob transfers to the horse.
Just get a jock on him who exudes confidence and ride the horse more prominently.February 20, 2026 at 19:46 #1755398The Group 1 Grosser Preis von Bayern (1m4f) is run on deep ground roughly two weeks before the Fighting Fifth. It is worth 80k to the winner and is contested by G1 horses that aren’t quite top tier. Would be easy money for him on track similar to Southwell (flat, almost 3f of a run-in)….
February 20, 2026 at 19:47 #1755399The fall at Newcastle was at snails pace , nowt to do with Nico , he can’t deal with white hurdles , tonight doesn’t change that
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 20, 2026 at 19:50 #1755400It was nice to see him enjoying himself again although I dont think it really proves anything regards Cheltenham or a flat campaign. Hes 9, it was a novice race. How many novice winners bolt up and dont turn out to be anything special? Lots.
February 20, 2026 at 19:50 #1755401“Don’t think anybody expected that. ”
I did.
What I didn’t expect was the amount of negativity and half-baked posts about the horse.
Hope the horse goes on to reach the top again whatever path he takes.
February 20, 2026 at 19:51 #1755402I’m pleased for Southwell and well done all the people that went there because it’s not an easy track to get to.
February 20, 2026 at 19:51 #1755403Yes, but the temptation to go for a first place prize-money of £255,006 is just too big. I think Nicky and Hendo want to win what looks a weak Champion Hurdle. If TNL is joint fav, you know it’s a very winnable G1 race.
February 20, 2026 at 19:52 #1755404If he does run on the flat it’ll draw crowds , no doubt about it , people love him but that why he can’t run at Cheltenham , what happened if he was hurt or killed , you destroy the 4 day festival on the first day
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 20, 2026 at 19:52 #1755405I’m not talking legacy HDLG.
I’m talking pound for pound in their primes. Ain’t nothing gets near Constitution Hill and that includes Istabraq.
That was fantastic to see tonight but I can’t help but feel a bit pissed with Nicky for wasting the horse of a lifetime. Constitution Hill should’ve been sent to the flat after winning the Champion Hurdle and probably would’ve remained on the flat from then onwards. He was that good.
If Willie trained this horse, he’d have won multiple Group 1’s on the flat.
