Racecourse stable limits will only become an issue if the divided race gets 24 declared and splits into two 12 runner races.
At that point, there are provisions within the rules that can be employed if necessary to get CH into his race.
Firstly:
The BHA shall reassess Field Size Limits and adjust them if necessary:
after Closing, or after Confirmation of Entries for Early Closers; and
after the deadline for Declarations to Run.
Secondly:
A series of clauses that define which races will have runners eliminated, with the BHA setting a priority order. And also a clause that states divided races will be the first to have runners removed.
Plenty enough loopholes available if needed. And the CH race has already been given the number one spot in the priority order, so it will be the last race to have runners removed because of stable limits.
February 16, 2026 at 17:06 #1754968If you’re a bread and butter Flat trainer with a bread and butter AW horse you can whistle for extra facilities, but if a champagne and caviar NH trainer and his hurdling prince , crown askew, turn up then temporary stabling will be laid on, floored with red carpet. Righto. At least the plebs know their place.
February 16, 2026 at 17:45 #1754972With Secret Squirrel already confirmed to bypass the event, he’ll need just one more horse above him to come out. Alan has already told us how unlikely it is that all horses above him will be declared…..
The game is on, what price will he be? I guess anything between 4/6 (WHY?????) and 10/1+ (more realistic)
February 16, 2026 at 17:49 #1754974I would probably have a small punt at a realistic price but it would need to be as ERL says 10+.
The more I know the less I understand.
February 16, 2026 at 21:39 #1754995Thinking back to other good horses Buckley has owned. Spirit River won the Coral Cup at Cheltenham but fell in consecutive chases and fell again back over hurdles that season. He wasn’t much good after and was sold cheaply.
The very good prospect Spirit Son , second in a Supreme picked up injuries in the stable at home and retired young, not living long in retirement.
February 17, 2026 at 06:24 #1755012Hes had horses with Henderson for decades , Tinryland was pretty handy early 90s , had different racing colours back then , black and white quartered top.
February 17, 2026 at 06:45 #1755013His horses were trained by Peter Bailey before Hendo.
February 17, 2026 at 09:31 #1755018I think he had Prince Rock with Peter Bailey but that’s a bit antediluvian.
I was thinking of more recent horses whose fortunes took an abrupt turn for the worse like Constitution Hill’s seem to be.
February 17, 2026 at 21:41 #1755083Just looked through this thread and can’t find anyone who called Constitution Hill a certainty for the Southwell race – in fact, everyone is united in saying what a terrible price he is. 🤷♂️
Pity the facts don’t fit the narrative.
February 17, 2026 at 22:00 #1755086He’s the equivalent of Manchester United living off the Ferguson years
you are only as good as your last race or the last racecourse you ran at…
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
February 17, 2026 at 22:01 #1755087Or, in Man U’s case, the referees 😉
February 18, 2026 at 05:16 #1755102You on heavy Glad ? , how’s the Henderson odds on shots going this week , hang on there’s that Triumph horse at Musselburgh , how far did he win by, I’ll check ….. Oh dear , or dear oh dear … The hill isn’t a certainty , however we should be able to work out his current hurdle mark from the run , what is it 30lbs normally , we’ll be able to reverse it , daddy is a 148/150 horse so how far does he have to have beat him by …
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 18, 2026 at 07:47 #1755104Paddy Power make Bismarck a 4/6 chance……
February 18, 2026 at 10:06 #1755107No sweat – he got in as the 12th in the priority list.
Interesting to note that the Nicholls runner, Nardaran, was only declared at 9:59 when it was clear that his presence in the race wouldn’t eliminate CH.
February 18, 2026 at 10:38 #1755109It’s become quite the saga. I only hope it’s not a damp squib and he finishes mid division. Not sure what it will tell us bar he’s got a race under his belt.
February 18, 2026 at 10:54 #1755111I suppose on the positive side there’s a good chance Southwell will beat its record attendance?!
Also the story will garner a fair amount of media interest although when they say he’s running on the AW because he’s fallen 3 times in 4 jump races I’m not sure that’s something that should be trumpeted.
Knowing the drama’s Hendo has the horse will probably tread on a stone in the next 48 hours and be declared a non-runner!
February 18, 2026 at 11:09 #1755112Beating their crowd record seems very unlikely. They had 9,030 there for the Sunday afternoon meeting in August 2024.
