I didnt bet CH today as I’ve lost all confidence in Nico as a jockey and honestly thought he might fall again.
He has been second guessing the horse at every obstacle for a while now which obviously has broken CH’s confidence.
I also believe CH may not be a fan of these new padded hurdles but I think it’s the jockey mostly. That being said. Ruby, he was far from beaten today and apart from the extremely lacklustre riding from Nico, probably would’ve won comfortably.
Lossiemouth looked laboured today but did well to get the win. She’d have had no chance against CH in that sort of form.
Nico has been regressing a lot for a couple of seasons now and needs replaced ASAP.
He ballsed up on almost everything at the festival, ballsed up on 2 top horses today and who can forget the absolute horror show aboard Shishkin in the Ryanair. That was one of the worst rides I’ve ever seen in a big race and this is coming from a former fan of Nicos.April 3, 2025 at 16:39 #1725629“Are you really loving seeing this great horse falling as much as your words seem to suggest?”
Having read ERL’s posts on this forum (and disagreed on many occasions through the years) I think I can safely say that Ruby very much does not enjoy seeing horses fall .
April 3, 2025 at 16:40 #1725631Are the white hurdles causing him to take off too early? How many times has he jumped them in a race?
April 3, 2025 at 16:40 #1725632Very true Glad’.
The biggest problem the vast majority of punters have is wanting to be “proven right”.
They look at a race and want to come to a definite opinion about who IS going to win and / or what IS going to happen in the race. So they can believe (or claim) they were right after the race.Value Is EverythingApril 3, 2025 at 16:44 #1725633In this case, Ginge, it goes further than that: there are certain posters here who do not consider Constitution Hill to be an all-time great. That’s fine, but don’t just make things up to try to support your argument.
April 3, 2025 at 16:49 #1725637“If there’s no challenge run there’s no sport”.
…And did you say the same about Impaire Et Passe and Gaelic Warrior when connections decided to miss Cheltenham?
Value Is EverythingApril 3, 2025 at 16:56 #1725640Thanks green, that’s how it really is.
Looking back at CH’s jumping ability there where reasons for concern in the past. He had to stretch at the last when winning the Champion Hurdle two years ago, he was very untidy at the last in the International, a very poor jump in the CH this year where he fell and otherwise too many jumps where he had to put himself right.
And I never suggested he was beaten, but he was under pressure and asked for an effort. But that doesn’t matter, if you don’t stay on your feet.
April 3, 2025 at 17:01 #1725643Taking rubys post out of context a bit there ginge?
And it should be said, glad, your doing exactly what ginge is saying everyone commenting on his hurdling is doing in reverse. Hes not an all time great, not remotely, he put in two or possibly three absolutely unbelievable performances and i do not mind saying he comfortsbly could have been the greatest ever, but he isnt, not even remotely close and thats a shame, because the talent was/is there, so stop making up that he is, when he isnt? Whats his grade 1 count compared to the greats? The end.
His jumping “lately” has been shocking
At his best he “would” have beaten lossie fairly easily, but he didnt, there 1-1, shes the better horse currently
And anyone saying he wasnt under pressure when he fell today is completely biased, he got caught in a pocket, two years ago he’d have blown through that pocket, needed nudged up when before he’d have done it without a niggle
Its not there for now
Cry more glad, cry more
April 3, 2025 at 17:18 #1725650Absolutely spot on, Ham.
The horse lost. That is all there is to it.
As you say, he put up 2 or 3 performances which entitle him to be in the conversation about “great”. In the early pages of this long running thread, I was one of the posters singing his praises.
I wanted him to be the greatest. But we have to be realistic. He has not produced a great performance for two years and when measured against the very best, he comes up short.
To those making excuses for him, it is rather like complaining that a football team that played their opponents off the park for 90 minutes but did not score and then lost 1-0 in stoppage time were the better team. Maybe they were – but they still lost.
April 3, 2025 at 17:30 #1725652“To those making excuses for him”
Who’s making excuses? Everyone has accepted that his jumping has become a concern.
April 3, 2025 at 17:38 #1725654“Whats his grade 1 count compared to the greats?”
Eight, compared to four each for Night Nurse and Sea Pigeon (crediting the Fighting Fifth with its current status as a Grade One race, which it wasn’t in their day). Doesn’t mean he was better than them, but he won more Grade Ones, although it must be noted that far are far more Grade One races now than there were then. Istabraq, for comparison purposes, won twelve Grade Ones.
Still, to win two Grade Ones as a novice and then six more in open company is an outstanding accomplishment. And, crucially, the form he has shown ranks him up with the greats.
Don’t let the facts get in the way.
April 3, 2025 at 18:30 #1725663State Man has won 11 grade ones, ten of them in open company.
April 3, 2025 at 18:34 #1725665State Man was also nine lengths behind Constitution Hill the only time they both completed.
April 3, 2025 at 18:37 #1725666Glad he has fallen in his last 2 races , as you say don’t let the facts get in the way … He’s a very talented horse …not a great
April 3, 2025 at 18:39 #1725668“State Man was also nine lengths behind Constitution Hill the only time they both completed.”
Two years ago. Constitution Hill is nowhere near that level now.
April 3, 2025 at 18:44 #1725672He was 40+ lengths in front of CH when he fell in March …
April 3, 2025 at 18:44 #1725673Technically, no horse has beaten Constitution Hill with a clear round. The hurdles are his only conquerors … with suspect jockey error.
Surely Nico must be having growing doubts creeping into his head about the way he’s riding CH. - AuthorPosts
