Well said Marlingford. I don’t believe that stewards even investigate injuries as often or as thoroughly as they ought either.

At least we are all agreed on the fact that we need more information following fatalities. It was good to talk it through and get everyone’s opinion.

Harry Cobden is a top class jockey and like you say Marlingford would have pulled Complete Unknown up if he thought he had sustained a bad injury. I remember when horses could be remounted after a fall and ridden to the line, so relieved that practice has now gone. Progress happens but oh so slowly. Jac

I’ve read that he severed a tendon. I assume that it happened at the very end of the race or as he crossed the line. How sad.

I followed him all last season and thought he’d have a big year but he disappointed at Newbury then ran poorly in the Welsh but i hadn’t written him off. So sad to hear he won’t get the chance to fulfil his potential. I’d be very surprised if i was right and Paul Nicholls was wrong but firstly he ran him on ground he knew he wouldn’t like then over a trip i would never have considered for him, not that either contributed to his death. Must be awful for the owners and staff.

He pulled up three of his mounts on Becher chase day in that awful ground (and won on two of the others) and pulled Stage Star up in reasonable time (granted he was always going to pull up a grade 1 horse in those circumstances) so its not as if he doesn’t pull them up.

The dam sire seems to have produced staying chasers so it was probably worth trying him over a distance.

A horse dropped dead today mid race at Rosehill , stipes report hour after racing stated what had happened , deceased before on course vets arrived , body sent for autopsy , all vets records pertaining to the horse both on course and at home atables to be produced for inspection .
That really should be standard in all top racing nations .Not left up in air what happened .

Yes helcat, you’re right about standards in top racing nations. AUS clearly is one of them, so are HK and JAP. I don’t know much about the rest and it’s not only the cause of death, but also explanations for a horse’s poor running. We don’t know much about that either and are just guessing next time out.
