I’ve nothing against competitive 6f handicaps but, tbh, the fact they’ll all be grey in this one doesn’t really do it for me.

    Each to their own.

“These last two meetings on the July Course have been abysmal.”

It seems to me that throughout this Flat season there has been one meeting every Saturday which was unnecessary. Last Saturday it was Newmarket’s turn.

It was about the worst card I can remember at the venue. I doubt a 3 runner and a 4 runner race were much use to the sport and to betting turnover.

At least Doncaster and Thirsk had some good field sizes and competitive racing.

Another dismal card at Newmarket tomorrow. At least the Sweet Solera has a reasonable field of 9 runners but the remaining 6 races have attracted 30 runners between them.

Do owners and trainers not want to go to the July Course anymore?

I’m going there today Cork and will report back. It seems everyone’s off to the Shergar Cup today, at least the field sizes are guaranteed.

Newmarket July Course about to spend another shed load of money replacing the weighing room and the head on viewing stand after they close at end of August,
That can only mean a hike in Membership and entrance prices for next year.

Yes, I read about that on Thoroughbred Daily News. I hope they do not spoil the character of the course.

The July Course is the first racecourse I ever visited, so I always like seeing it. But outside of the July meeting, the racing there has been a bit uninspiring this year.

Average attendance today and the fields got even smaller but still the racing was exciting and I managed to find the Sweet Solera winner the tail swishing Johnston filly Lakota Sioux and back my old friend Mitrosonfire who won the race after at 13/2. :rose:

A good day for a racing fan like me but sometimes I wonder why people bother going racing as whilst queueing at the Tote to put on my Placepot the guy in front was busy going through the whole card putting his bets on, obviously not intending to take a trip to the paddock and even look at a horse.

I took a long last look at the weighing room and head on stand Cork and like you hope they don’t ruin it. I especially hope they don’t put those awful white metal barriers around the pretty parade ring like they have on the Rowley Mile it would ruin the whole character of the July Course.

Lakota Sioux’s constant tail-swishing gives the impression she’s a real character with quite a bit of ability.

Definitely talented, definitely already got her own ideas about the game!

Bright Diamond won the maiden at Newmarket really well. Not sure she beat much and the Godolphin favourite flopped but she must have a fair amount of ability after pulling that far clear.

Cork..Bright Diamond looked a picture in the paddock the best looking filly by far and she caught a few eyes.
There were rumours that Elegant Charm is not one of Godolphin’s best and so it proved.

One for the future notebook from that race was Juddmonte Farm’s Expert Eye filly Jalapa who looked the most behind of the all the contenders, being very lightly framed, she still has some growing to do but she ran a good maiden, in 3rd place, yesterday and as a half sister to Westover could make a decent 3yo. :good:

Colin…I do love a quirky filly and Lakota Sioux is certainly that. She won lots of hearts yesterday with that tail flashing performance. Almost using it as a propeller. Brilliant ride by James Doyle to keep her out of trouble as she zigged and zagged across the course on her way to victory. Could we have seen the first tail flashing 1000 Guineas
    winner. :rose:

The time was slower than the Sweet Solera, but Bright Diamond was impressive nonetheless.

The half-sister to Westover sounds interesting.

I’m less keen on tail-flashing racehorses – of any gender – but this one definitely has ability.

I didn’t look at the times Ian but that is interesting and of course they all have time on their side to come on leaps and bounds next season. Will be interesting to keep track of Jalapa’s development

I think Lakota Sioux holds a Moyglare entry and she already has black type having run 3rd in the Chesham so definitely more to come.
I certainly wouldn’t want to be a horse in the firing line of that that tail.
Perhaps they should issue eye guards to all her future rivals.

We’re in that period between Glorious Goodwood and the Ebor, were there’s a lot of dross, with the occasional decent race on an average card.

Leicester City are at home today – it was a 2pm kick off.

Leicester are racing today – first race 1.50pm.

    That was clever.

The football game isn’t even televised so I’m not really sure why its in this slot
Unless its televised or a team are playing Thursday nights in the Europa league/conference they all really should be 3pm on a Saturday

    Two quotes:

Leicester City requested the move due to an event in the local area on the date of the original game and that request has been granted by the Premier League.

The Caribbean Carnival is taking place at Victoria Park on Saturday, and its highly-anticipated parade of decorated floats and costumed bands will travel from the park to the city centre and back again. It is expected that up to 30,000 will join the colourful festivities.

Horse racing at Leicester. Just a mere irrelevant side attraction to the carnival and football this weekend.

Horse racing or The Derby in particular will take another step down the ladder next year when the FA Cup final is run on the same day as the Derby.

With ITV having a contract to show the FA cup final the Derby will have to be relegated to ITV4?
