I find it poor that he as now come out and stated he has had a virus in the yard and may still have one.
I have been backing some of his horses and thought that some had run poorly but to come out now and say it is IMO poor.
If it was not for the punters racing would probably not survive and he should be more open with his dealings with the public.December 16, 2013 at 21:22 #461992I agree entirely but he isn’t the only one is he? Plenty of trainers only acknowledge the existence of punters when they own a horse in their yard.
You would imagine Colin Tizzard is an ‘open-book’ compared to the likes of Jonjo O’Neill. What annoys me most is the positive slant the media give these sort of ‘characters’.
No doubt someone stuck in a time warp will be along shortly suggesting how lucky punters are to get any information.

I would imagine given the numbers they always have the odd one ‘not quite right’. I think the correct way to look at it, is if there were no owners, racing definitely wouldn’t survive. He has a duty to his owners and their horses firstly.
December 17, 2013 at 15:17 #462032Which comes first? The owners of course. Punters are a pest.
December 17, 2013 at 17:04 #462045What is a trainer in Tizzard’s position to do? His current RTF figure in the RP is 47% – not brilliant, but not bad either.
He’s described it as a low grade virus, affecting some but not others. If he announces to all and sundry as soon as he suspects something is wrong, then his next runner hoses up at 20s, what would detractors say then?
He’s in the classic no win situation. Many trainers would have said nowt.

I would have thought being honest with people would be a fair starting point.
It seems strange that this ‘story’ has only just broken. Has it been released through a third party or did someone threaten to break it prompting Tizzard to actually make a statement?
