Who are your cliff horses? Mine is most definitely Robin Des Foret. I just can’t help myself, despite chastising myself each time I do my money after a disappointing run.
November 25, 2021 at 09:35 #1568948Waiting Patiently, Ballyandy and First Lieutenant in recent years.
November 25, 2021 at 10:41 #1568951Mine used to be Robin too but I have finally betrayed him and stopped backing him. Can’t believe I’ve dumped him as thought I would be loyal for ever (well I still love him and would cheer the house down if he won, but mostly I just hope he is OK, I worried about him over the banks).
Current horse I will make any and every excuse for: Lisnagar Oscar. I maintain that he was unlucky in last year’s Stayers and would have won.
November 25, 2021 at 10:45 #1568952A fellow Robin fan, nice!
Funnily enough, I’ve just listened to the latest “On The Hunt” podcast – always to be recommended – and Tom is the same when it comes to Lisnagar Oscar. Unless of course, you’re one and the same?!
November 25, 2021 at 12:00 #1568960Ofalltheginjoints is becoming my latest cliff horse. I just know the day I don’t back him…
Tedham was another but i have now divorced him after the last run. He’s a dog, i see that now!

J U M P ( that’s all he would write on this thread without any explanation)
I have put him away in the sock drawer and let’s get down to more business with some sensible talk about the psychology of loss.
The reason people back a horse repeatedly and even to the extreme point of following off a cliff is this simple fact : the pain of missing certain winners ( particularly horses in your team or who you have batted an eyelid at) is greater than the pain of the loss when they, as they often do,lose.
People that pick and lock into six numbers, have gone LOTTO and are sadly locked forever into what I call the never ending nightmare club.
I had a soft spot for the french import Barracuda back in the hay time. Mathematics are always KING but thinking back to those haydays I was certainly tempted to stake a bit more on my favourite daddy long legs.
Does anyone know a suitable monastery ? – I don’t drink ( the devil tempted me with one small glass of red least night
but I’ll double lock the door tonight ) I eat no dough and have exited the milky cappaccino/latte club. I don’t gamble ( under 100k and then only when there’s a blue moon up) eat very little and I sleep very very well. Problem is I’ve got this thing in the drawer.Just to end on a questionable note. My late mother had a fear of heights. I put a hypothetical to her one sunny afternoon sat in Hove, by asking her what she would do if we were thousands of feet up standing on a narrow two foot cliff edge together – side by side, backs to the cliff and no way up or down. I have always loved her immediate response.
“I’D HAVE TO JUMP”
Strangely enough…..
November 25, 2021 at 14:41 #1568993… I was thinking exactly the same thing

( Problem is Father Derrick was waving his forefinger at me – back and forth it went at the very back of my mind….)

November 26, 2021 at 20:54 #1569224After today, Lisnagar Oscar and I are in relationship counselling. His wind or his ulcers might be at him again but if he doesn’t sort himself out, I’m dumping him.
