    Win percentages in claimers pretty much drop with the drop in the weight. Weight drops according to claiming price, therefore it is reasonable to assume that claiming price at least gives some pointer to winning chance. By inference the claiming pruice might give us a clue to stable intentions and thoughts.

    From memory I think backing the top weight in all-age claimers gives a damned near break even situation. Newcomers studying a claimer could do worse that start at the top of the card and stop once they find a horse having a reasonable chance under the conditions. Simple, but quite often effective.

    Rob,

    I’d agree with you with the possible exception of fillies which their owners consider to have a high residual value. They often weight themselves out of contention which is probably the reverse of their aims but it is hard to go against an owner’s psych.
