Spot on HDLG.
Although Yes, the easier fences help younger horses. With it attracting more graded horses may well mean fewer up and coming younger horses getting in. Last year’s 12 of the runners were 10 year old +, including 4 of the first 6.Value Is EverythingMarch 16, 2025 at 17:12 #1724242Ginger, every other race that day bar the Gold Cup was 9 seconds and upwards slow with the Foxhunters 14 seconds slow.
Not bottomless going but still on the slower side. For me, Galopin only won as easy as he did due to him never being in the race at all until near the end. Paul rode him for luck and to get the trip and it worked a charm.
Had he been closer to the pace, I think he’d have been battling with Bravemansgame all the way to the line.March 17, 2025 at 12:49 #1724275“On the slower side”, yes GM.
Not what you described it earlier as, “very slow”.
Value Is EverythingMarch 18, 2025 at 10:36 #1724337Yes GM, two years ago Townend rode GDC to get the trip. No problem with him doing that at that time.
GDC had not raced prominently on his two starts previous to the 2023 Gold Cup. So was not used to racing prominently. However, in his 7 starts prior to this year’s Gold Cup GDC had always raced prominently so was used to racing that way and didn’t seem to like it. Not travelling or jumping with his usual fluency.
