Where’s Fist?
HA!I’ve been really excited about this horse ever since his great Feltham win last December. He could become one of the all time greats. I mean he has so many more years to hell maybe even win 4 more! Definitely a possibility.
I tried to get Grand National odds on him after he won the Feltham for future years, but had no luck. Bet he’ll be right in the running now if it’s ever mentioned!
Gotta take Denman to Aintree next year. What a fantastic horse he is and he deserves his shot in the real big one.
And i’m rather relieved Midnight Chase wasn’t too close up. Don’t get me wrong it would have been amazing if he had won, but if he placed then there would be no getting away from 11:10 for any Grand National attempts, so with this result comes hopefully some leniency.
March 18, 2011 at 16:38 #346043Isn’t he still down to run in this years National depending on how he ran today?
March 18, 2011 at 16:51 #346044Yeah he still has an entry. I hope they run him with an effort like that. If he is confirmed he’ll be a hot fancy on the day having come 5th. My Will was seriously fancied for the National after coming 5th in ’09 so he should be a leading contender come April.
Just looked up some old posts… check out this gem… talking about Long Run

This horse will not win
King George
Gold Cup
Betfair Bowl
Guinness Gold Cup
etc etc etc 3 Mile+ Grade 1’s

Hmmhmmhmm… hehehe…. hahaha…. HAHAHAHAHA!
And also one has to comment on the absolute scorcher What A Friend ran. What a race he run. He seemed rather out of form this season, i know he has a 2nd and a 4th this season, but after last season he didn’t live up to the promise we expected, so coming such a great 4th only just being beaten by Kauto is a real credit. Could run another big race next year.
March 18, 2011 at 18:28 #346057Racing Post reporting that Long Run set new course record 6min 29.70 seconds
March 18, 2011 at 18:46 #346058Wallace be seething as i know him personally. haha…sick sick sick.
Mind you i never though Long Run had a run like that in him…
Denman is as usual the moral victor of the day…what a champion he is
March 18, 2011 at 18:51 #346060That ground was way too fast imo – the time shows it. Either the best horse to ever run in the race or fast ground. I know what I thnk.
They are just lucky they didnt cause serious injury to horse with ground like that. If thats good to soft then my names Santa tbh.
That it the one big critisim I have with Cheltenham – not telling the truth about the ground for fear of the races cutting up. Something they have always dont over the years. Plenty of times years ago heavy as been called soft etc etc.

When Kauto and Denman turned into the straight and Ruby hadn’t moved, my hairs stood on end, a lump in my throat, I was nearly welling up. Great run and I’m lucky to have seen them.
Made no secret that I thought Long Run was a sharp track specialist, I was wrong. To hit a couple of fences like he did and win like that he is class plain and simple. If we have another Kauto on our hands we are very very lucky.
Wonderful day, done my money in the gold cup but got some money back with Bobs Worth at 9/2 and Zarkander 8/1 ante-post, they were very impressive.
It’d be nice if they retire Kauto and Denman now and they’ll be remembered for this great run and be safe and sound. They deserve it. Legends.
March 18, 2011 at 19:04 #346063Denman should be back for more IMO….he run was unbelievable good.
I think they should head for the National next year. Go for the Hennesey and then on to liverpool
March 18, 2011 at 19:15 #346064What a fab race!
I lost though, as i had IC in a treble and double with Quevega and Big Bucks.I was not convinced about Long Run before but happy to have been wrong – awesome!
Maybe it’s just human nature to stick with what you know – i normally take a while to warm to the ‘new kid(s) on the block’.A good Cheltenham for me – 7 winners and 2 big priced e/w jobs.
But most were relatively short priced so actual winnings below my 2008 total, which was boosted by 3 separate bets on Katchit.Highlight for me personally was today’s win by Zarkandar – a decent ante post punt from a few weeks ago.
Albertas was a great one yday, together with Quevega/Hurricane Fly double on Tuesday. One thing about this forum – why did we have a good piece on HF for Tuesday and then nothing else each day for the big races?
The HF piece is still on here tonight!March 18, 2011 at 19:16 #346065fab race, i hope they retire the legends now! what a disapointment weird al was…no excuses!
March 18, 2011 at 19:30 #346069Great race, never have I enjoyed backing the second more than in both World Hurdle and Gold Cup. Denman and Kauto Star added to their reputaions in defeat, despite not being at their very best. Long Run probably deserves to be rated a "great" after that (equivalent to a 180 or more rating in Timeform). What A Friend probably improved a bit in first time blinkers. Midnight Chase is the one I’d rate the race around.
I’d like to see Long Run rested, with Denman and Kauto Star taking each other on one last time in the final race of their careers in the Betfair bowl.
Value Is EverythingMarch 18, 2011 at 19:33 #346070Yikes…Great Horse?
Very good yes but needs to come back next year and do the same for me.
March 18, 2011 at 19:34 #346071My only concern is that, Long Run apart, where are the up and coming class horses for this race next year?
Time For Rupert 20/1 looks massive to me.
Value Is EverythingMarch 18, 2011 at 19:36 #346072Yikes…Great Horse?
Very good yes but needs to come back next year and do the same for me.
"Greatness" means different things to different people. For some consistency comes in to it. For me it is only the quality of performance.
Value Is EverythingMarch 18, 2011 at 19:49 #346073Best race ever – amazing winner and great to see Denman and Kauto Star run so well too.
Brilliant having the view I’ve held since first seeing Long Run in November 2008 that he’s an absolute superstar vindicated. Disappointed he didn’t do it in 2010 when I had fortunes on him at 16’s and bigger but he’s a star and I hope he stays around and sound for many years to come, may even take in this years Grand Steeplechase.
Another re-match with Rubi Ball would be quite a spectacle.

March 18, 2011 at 20:36 #346075Long Run is a very impressive horse and if he stays fit and well nothing currently in training over fences will touch him. Great from Kauto and Denman. Can’t say I welled up or anything but it was an emotional performance from both.
Must say I’m disappointed Pandorama was allowed take his place. The owner obviously has a right to do what he likes with his horse but it was obviously against his trainers advice. That was the quickest Gold Cup in 3 years according to TurfTrax going stick readings and a track record.
Long Live Long Run
March 18, 2011 at 20:51 #346078Great performance, tho lets not go overboard. IC beat Denman by about the same last year, and Denman has obviously deteriorated with age.
Having said that, LR is only six, and should improve, and there are no obvious major challengers coming up, unless Weapons Amnesty returns as good as before - AuthorPosts
