Thanks for the kind words earlier Joe.
I’m very very careful with The Mullins runners as well, and took a similar stance. Was happy to risk Ivan & Vroum Vroum for The Chamion Hurdle, as they weren’t being touted for it anyway, and at least they have an entry. He still managed to sting me though, with one of his being a loser in The Gold Cup Book.
I’m the same, and mentally prepare myself for the non runners, as injury is inevitable. It’s just not possible for them all to make it, and all part of the game. No real injury disasters for Cheltenham for me so far, but I did invent new swear words when I heard Three Faces West wouldn’t be making Aintree lol
Good luck with Brain Power at the 50’s and well done nabbing that price. I seriously considered adding him to the market 2 months ago, he was well in my notebook after Punchestown, but I decided against it…………and cost me if not a 1000-1 bet, then at least one pushing 700’s, 800’s. I try to console myself that Betfair might not have added him anyway, as is their want, but it’s not really helping me haha.
Good luck with the Tizz bets, and it’s not entirely out of the question.
I’ve been mad busy at work since last Friday, and have missed a lot of racing, and still not got round to watching the Willoughby Court race. I heard good things, so will watch it when I surface at whatever time this morning/afternoon and give it a look, as from what I hear that 33’s could be tasty.

January 20, 2017 at 14:30 #1282865Yeah, I’d say each to their own as well, all part of the fun, as long as you don’t lose the plot.
Can totally see where you’re coming from Joliff, and it must look like madness to you if it’s not your thing. Once The World Hurdle entries are out, I’ll put my AP bets (so far), and my way of approaching it will be slightly different to others too, though Charlie, your Battleford example is very typical of how I bet Ante-Post during the year.
I love AP betting, and love my “mini books” on the The Champion Hurdle, Ryanair, Stayers, and Gold Cup, but if you lose the run of it (particularly with Cheltenham) it can be very costly. In 2015 I had a lumpy bet on Cause of Causes Ante-Post for The 4 Miler, and a decent lift on the Thursday from Call The Cops & The Package, but when I totted up everything at the end of the week it was a real eye opener. It was by far my worst Cheltenham ever, and most of the damage was done AP. I addressed this last year, and though the volume of bets is similar, the staking is a lot stricter.
I’m being more guarded this year with the handicaps, as I’m finally having to accept that having a horse at 10-1 on the day (with various other concessions) is better than having a 20-1 shot who has indeed taken in one of the other 7 possible engagements they had

I do a lot of Cheltenham betting antepost but usually on the same 20 horses or so. For example I’ve played Alpha Des Obeaux in the RSA about 15 times already as a single and in about 10 multis.
But one of my rules antepost is not to bet in handicaps.
January 20, 2017 at 14:41 #1282866Well here’s mine. The usual “mini books” on The Gold Cup, Stayers, Champion Hurdle, and Ryanair.
The Ryanair was a bloodbath for me last year, just horrible, but a bit happier with it this year, and though Valseur Lido is out, he wasn’t my biggest bet, and not that bothered, as I bet him for the price, more than the fact that he was on my radar.
There’s a few who’re not on the list that I’ve bet in those “books” who I’ve long layed off for either a loss or a profit, and a few who I never had the opportunity to trade, but no point listing them. All of the books are “red” at the moment, but bar The Stayers, which I’ve made a right pigs ear of, I’m confident of going green on them. Only strict staking stopped The Stayers mirroring that performance in The Ryanair last year.
I had started a book on The RSA, but greened up for a healthy profit (it was 82 pence), but I have added a couple since.
I’ll list everything bar my multis. It goes without saying a lot of those listed below are either dead in the water, through the horses clearly not going for those races, or the selections currently available at much better prices.

Main betting race for me along with The National, and already in a good position this year thanks to Empire of Dirt. Good few have been bet and subsequently laid off, but I’ve kept those in, who still have an entry. The big winner for me in this book last year was Carlingford Lough, and laying that bet off, paid for Cheltenham last year. Ironically, he’s my biggest loser this time around. Main fancies were always Native River, Zabana, and Minella Rocco.Native River 33’s ew

More of That Gold Cup/Grand National Double 500-1That 250/1 Hennessy GC special double looks tasty bud.
I liked my 5/1 special for King George & GC double on Thistlecrack but your 250/1 is far more attractive at this stage. Fair play on that
And empire of Dirt laid at 27s for the price you played is bl00dy good going as well
January 20, 2017 at 14:47 #1282867Native River Hennessy/Cheltenham Gold Cup Double 250-1
Sweet……

I too had the right idea, just the wrong race…….

Was trying to be clever thinking Tizz would spread his army rather than fight each otherOne of the most inspired bets I’ve ever seen. Bobby spotted NR’s potential a long time ago. Aside from his massively helpful forum work, Bobby’s one of the shrewdest punters I’ve known: hard work and specialising in staying chases a big part of that success, I’d imagine. Rock on, Bobby. Long may you continue socking it to the bookies!
Well said
Absolutely agree
January 20, 2017 at 16:52 #1282889Thanks MoM………..just wish it was March just now lol

Cheers VTC – your write up the other day prompted me to look at this a little further so I took 32’s on BetEx – still available at 32’s

January 26, 2017 at 18:51 #1283908Posted a couple of my multis on the RSA thread so I may as well post it here too:
I’ve got an each way Yankee of:
MTOY 33/1, One For Arthur 25/1, Alpha Des Obeaux 20/1 and Bristol De Mai 16/1 (Gold cup)And the exact same bet with Gods Own at 20/1 for the Chanpion chase instead of BDM in the GC.
January 28, 2017 at 16:40 #1284266Let’s start all the after-timing…very good couple of days for my Cheltenham bets. Stand to win a grand on Cole Harden for zero risk after snaffling big prices on him for the Stayers. Vroum Vroum Mag I reckon looks like she runs in the Stayers. They have plenty of ammo for the Mares’ and Ryanair, but no serious runners in the Stayers. My opinion is not influenced by my green book for her 3:-) On Mount Mews for the Supreme/Neptune at massive prices – don’t know if he’ll run but very happy to be in the position I’m in.
The RSA lost 4 big guns in 2 days: Aux Ptits Soins, Bleu Et Rouge (I think, he goes Irish Arkle), Cole Harden and Our Duke. I have a poxy £1.74 on Royal Vacation at 95 but nice to see him win today. Heavily franks the form of Might Bite – NJH said on his blog that Might Bite might not run, but they’d be mad not to run him now, shirley? Alpha Des Obeaux’s form franked very nicely with Anibale Fly winning at Naas to boot. I’m mostly on at sub-current market prices but I still like my position. I have plenty of multiples with him and others at fancy prices, including…
Wholestone was phenomenal. One of the very best novice hurdle performances of the season. Goes to the Albert Bartlett with a huge, huge chance. No Hassel Hoff franked his form at Doncaster a little earlier with a very narrow 2nd. Bit surprised to see the winner of that race around the same price as Wholestone! He’s been completely underestimated by bookmakers all season. Coral only cut him to 14s immediately after the race! Very happy with my 16s, 20s + 25s on him, as well as my multiples. He looks an EW certainity. Slight concern about his jumping, he’s made a mistake in his last few races. It didn’t concern him here, despite the step back in trip for him, but it might be a concern against better horses in the Albert Bartlett. I’m looking at Death Duty, but Irish horses have struggled a bit in that race. Plenty of short-priced losers.
The Champion Hurdle looks wide open right now. As far as I’m concerned, Faugheen is as good as out. He might turn up but I just don’t think he’ll do anything if he goes straight there. Took 85s on Ivanovich Gorbatov after the Faugheen news broke. Wanted 90s but was happy to settle! He spiked shortly after, so a bit concerned by that. Not 100% sure he’ll run here but I want him onside wherever he runs. Also took more fancy prices on Buveur D’Air. I got 140s on him a while back and greened up my book at 80s, so had to go in again to get him on-side. He twice finished ahead of 8/1 shot Petit Mouchoir as a novice, so patently he’d have a huge chance if he runs. Was very happy to take 250s+ on L’Ami Serge. Class horse. Just hope he can recover and run. My Tent Or Yours 50/1 EW looking nicer and nicer with the big guns falling by the way side. Could be another Punjabi-esque renewal.
Was also very happy to get fancy Ryanair prices about Road to Riches. Couple of dud bets I’ve placed on others I’m sure, but a good run in the Irish Hennessy should cement his place in the Ryanair field. Anybody with good prices on UDS and Uxizandre have done very well.
Congrats to VtC for nice prices on Champagne West for the Ryanair, I’m very jealous. Congrats to any others who picked up nice prices on recent winners.
Brilliant weekend for my ‘portfolio’, very happy.
