Definitly Red for me. The stable is flying and he has run some of his best races at Wetherby. It is also a race Ellison knows he can win and he must realise the horse is very unlikely to ever win a Gold Cup. He is going to be primed and ready whereas some of the others will probably be happy to just see a good run.
October 31, 2019 at 13:17 #1473356La Bague Au Roi looks cut out for this and should take a lot of beating. That said this looks a potentially vintage lineup by its modern standards.
Molly The Dolly is one I’d like to see a good run from without giving too much away. I fancy her for the Grand National and wouldn’t want her blowing her mark. At the very least I wouldn’t want her going up too much before the Ladbroke.
November 1, 2019 at 10:11 #1473436Definitely Red
Aso
Elegant Escape
Balloptic
Top Ville Ben
La Bague Au Roi
Molly The DollyNovember 1, 2019 at 10:45 #1473439Great lineup. Aso tackling 3 miles again is really intriguing. Wasn’t disgraced each time he’s tried it before and has clearly improved since then. That Ryanair run will stick long in my memory.
Might go e/w on him and Molly as I still think they’re fighting for second place behind La Bague Au Roi. Might play with the forecast as well.
November 1, 2019 at 17:25 #1473486I always enjoy this race, but I just always seem to call it wrong.
At 9-2, I’m hoping that Definitly Red can change that.
November 1, 2019 at 17:58 #1473493Good to see the mare runs. If back to her best she skates up, imo. Aso most interesting back for a 3rd attempt at a staying trip. His best performances were last season and stamina could be more reliable now he’s a bit older.
Can’t help thinking this is Elegant Escape’s Gold Cup. He’ll do well fresh and 3 miles ought o be fine for him. I don’t think he can cut it at the very top but could become a superstar in staying handicaps, not least the Grand National for which he can be backed at 40/1.
I’m greatly looking forward to this race tomorrow but won’t be having a bet. Greatrex says La Bague Au Roi is training as well as ever and a lass from the yard responded to one of my tweets saying the mare was ‘absolutely fine’. I just want to see that sparkle back in her before risking any cash.
Good luck to all
November 1, 2019 at 20:04 #1473517I am all over LBAR for this. Smashed 5/1, 11/4 and am tempted to keep getting involved.
November 1, 2019 at 20:24 #1473519Ive had LA BAGUE AU ROI how could you not?! every nag shes beat is top drawer. I dont know what happened on her most recent outing but maybe Kalashnikov just had a wonder run and LBAR ran badly. A bit harsh on kalashnikov but i dont see that as a top top horse
November 1, 2019 at 21:51 #1473542Pardon my ignorance but if LBAR is so great and the form reads true, then surely her handicap mark is an absolute steal- so why isn’t she off smashing up the Sodexo handicap field in a canter tomorrow (or similar)?
I’m inclined to agree with LD73 and peter h about Aso- should handle the ground fine, as have the next 3 of his sire’s best progeny. The trip is the question- and Top Ville Ben will make them run a proper 3 mile race- but it’s certainly worth a go. His sire’s offspring were 20f horses but his dam’s progeny got further and one of them led the Grand Steep de Paris most of the way round before coming unstuck.
Elegant Escape has to prove his physical wellbeing after that horrid Aintree run poor soul. His wind will have been given a fair old thrashing last season too…will last year’s preseason wind op still be able to hold the fort?
Definitly Red is knocking on but yes likely fully primed for his gold cup tomorrow.
Aso would be my choice but certainly an interesting race and a proper grade 2.
November 1, 2019 at 22:31 #1473552I like Ballyoptic here. He is fit and won at Chepstow with something in hand. The rain will make it a stamina test and that will suit Ballyoptic.
Ballyoptic 6/1.
November 2, 2019 at 07:48 #1473611Honestly this race has so many questions , I disagree with this being EE gold cup , but he does have a question to answer , I’m going to play EE and Def Red , rev forecast as well
November 2, 2019 at 10:31 #1473634I can’t get away from how some of his stablemates have fared recently, so I’m sticking with Definitly Red.
I think that La Bague Au Roi will have the better season, but I think the Ellison horse will be geared up fully for this.
November 2, 2019 at 12:56 #1473693I follow Phil’s horses so I too will be gunning for Top Ville Ben [and of course Lady Buttons]. Adam deserves a big win after missing so much of last season with that broken leg.
November 2, 2019 at 13:12 #1473700Going changed to soft , jockeys saying it’s heavy in places ….this is hiring EE more and more , also explains money for Ballyoptic
November 2, 2019 at 14:43 #1473718I’m still going with Top Ville Ben at 8s, just because he likes the ground and the track.
My initial choice would be Definitely Red so I might reverse them in a forecast bet.November 2, 2019 at 14:54 #1473723Def,s got a lot of weight to carry in that …this is going to be a proper slog …..fence in the back taken out as well
November 2, 2019 at 15:49 #1473741Good call DBR
Joe, I think your call months ago on La Bague Au Roi was just as good.
