We’ve got it wrong, Tatling. The Mares’ Novices Hurdle is far more prestigious than the King George because it’s run at the Cheltenham Festival.
I suppose that we old fogeys have to move with the times!
November 1, 2020 at 12:46 #1508211Think I’ll stick with being an old fogey.

November 1, 2020 at 13:11 #1508215Cheltenham is not going to go back to being just another meeting, just slightly more high profile than the others. And it is not going to go back to just being three days either. That is the world we live in.
November 1, 2020 at 13:25 #1508218Yes a world of greed. Cheltenham and the Breeders Cup meetings have been diluted to the point of ruination. Doesn’t mean I have to agree with it.

November 1, 2020 at 14:02 #1508225Ok guys why did wayward lad not win a GC ? , I said he was a great horse but he was never able to win a GC , there’s a reason why Cheltenham is the pinnacle , to win the GC you need to be a great jumper ,have a high cruising speed and be able to get up the hill ….the king George is a top class race and great horses win it but it’s not the GC
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
November 1, 2020 at 14:15 #1508228KG has a better role of honour than the GC in my opinion.

November 1, 2020 at 14:35 #1508229It’s easier to win a KG than a GC so it’s always going to be the bigger prize
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
November 1, 2020 at 14:39 #1508230Is it? I don’t see the reasoning behind that.

November 1, 2020 at 17:26 #1508257Well why can Clan des obeaux win 2 KG but struggle to compete in the GC , he won’t even go to Cheltenham this year
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
November 1, 2020 at 19:29 #1508273Plenty of other horses suited to Cheltenham but not Kempton and vice versa. Doesn’t mean the KG is “easier”. Lord Windamere wouldn’t have been sighted at Kempton, for example.

November 1, 2020 at 19:52 #1508276Isn’t the King George a championship race;or is that race now an irrelevance?
November 1, 2020 at 20:05 #1508277Think it depends if you are a Racing fan or a Cheltenham fan.

November 1, 2020 at 20:11 #1508278I’m a racing fan but understand the GC is the ultimate prize , Lord Windermere may not have won a KG but he won the RSA and then the GC so he was a champion , let me ask you in athlectices is the world championships or the Olympics the pinnacle …we,ll need to agree to disagree on this
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
November 2, 2020 at 04:40 #1508308I’m definetely an old fogey. King George for me over the years been the highlight of the season for me with horses like Dessie, wayward lad and such. I didn’t back Dessie when he won the first time but was gobsmacked by his performance. Had Dessie not won the gold cup I’d still consider him one of the all time greats.
