Not sure what to make of it really. To be fair he has beaten Vinndication well enough but Sam Spinner, Ballyoptic and Definitely Red did not turn up. It might not have taken much winning. Vinndication always looks like everything is an effort and his jumping is not slick enough at this level.
October 31, 2020 at 15:41 #1508059A horse winning a valuable grade 2 chase being immediately written off because it isn’t Cheltenham is everything wrong with this game.
Well done Cyrname backers. I have never been convinced that he is nearly as good as he’s touted as, but he keeps putting on performances like that.
Something clearly amiss with Sam Spinner, hopefully that will be rectified. La Bague Au Roi looked like getting involved turning for home, but folded. A handicap over shorter could still be within her grasp before retiring at the end of the season.
October 31, 2020 at 15:55 #1508062Vinndication for the Welsh National perhaps? He is a big, powerful horse and a slog through the mud there might suit him.
October 31, 2020 at 16:08 #1508067Thanks Gladaiteur

Thought AYE RIGHT ran a cracker and showed a tidy profit, hopefully goes to Ladbroke Trophy at Newbury now without a penalty.
cheers
October 31, 2020 at 16:37 #1508074Aye right ran a belter there
Vinndication just doesn’t seem to jump as well on left handed tracks as he does at right handed ones
Cyrname was a joy to watch tbf, jumped like a stag and simply outclassed them
Id imagine all roads lead to the King George now
Youd think Paul nicholls got an enormous amount of pleasure from proving all the doubters wrong

October 31, 2020 at 18:39 #1508099The point I make about Cheltenham is that’s its racing Olympics , it’s where u prove your the best , he won well today but the 2nd horse proved today that he’s, a handicapper not a a graded horse , he was being niggled along way from home , we have still to see what cyrname has when he comes off the bridle , have to say Nicholls is going to the king George mob handed
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
October 31, 2020 at 21:24 #1508132Impressive run by Cyrname! Favourite for the King George in my opinion. Last year he was completely spent by racing Altior, this is a better prep.
Strange race by Vinndication as well. At no point in the race he looked comfortable, but in the end he ran a decent race.
October 31, 2020 at 22:10 #1508145Can’t knock that performance from Cyrname and can’t call him an overrated Ascot specialist anymore either. He was impressive today, fair play.
I think the Cheltenham criticisms are unfair. Clan Des Obeaux doesn’t like Cheltenham either but is a dual King George winner. Many champions still have weaknesses.
October 31, 2020 at 22:15 #1508150Cheltenham is the bane of the NH season now. Everyone droning on about it all the time, especially the ITV team, and it’s a diluted mess now anyway. A shadow of its 3 day glory.

October 31, 2020 at 22:53 #1508157Couldn’t agree more, Tatling.
November 1, 2020 at 07:16 #1508171Understand what your saying but surely the point of calling yourself the best is the fact that you perform everywhere in every situation , personally i dont believe cyrname is the best chaser about …. And I don’t think he,d have a prayer against Kauto or Denman
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
November 1, 2020 at 07:32 #1508172Agree there Tatling.
It’s coming to the stage where everything else in the jumping season seems an irrelevance.
And to the other point, Wayward Lad never won at Cheltenham but that doesn’t detract from the fact he was a champion racehorse.
November 1, 2020 at 07:38 #1508173But he wasnt a champion ? , he was a great horse but he didn’t win a championship race ….he was a great horse though
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
November 1, 2020 at 08:50 #1508179Right; so he won three King Georges but you’re saying that he never won “a championship race”.
Okay…
November 1, 2020 at 09:33 #1508181Wayward Lad was an all time great but from a different era.
Whether we like it or not (and I do not really like it), Cheltenham now dominates everything. Racing has been quite happy to let this happen. All the talk of the narrative and “racing’s olympics”.
The top trainers now train for clients who want winners at Cheltenham. They are not spending six figure sums on geldings in the hope of winning a nice little graded race somewhere.
Their horses are only trained with Cheltenham in mind. It seems like a bygone era to think that in the 2006/07 season, Kauto Star ran about six times before the Gold Cup and took in the Tingle Creek en route!
Should we complain too much? Without the festival, there would be almost no money in NH racing and the whole sport’s finances (Flat and jumps) would take a huge hit. Almost all the top betting races (with the obvious exception of the National) are at the festival.
November 1, 2020 at 11:43 #1508202The King George means a damn sight more to me than the bloody Ryanair.
