How much of the big races did Channel 4 have from 1986 to 2005ish? eg Cheltenham/Ascot – anything to do with BBC having those? Please forgive the potentially stupid question
During the ’80s and ’90s the BBC had sole rights to Aintree, Ascot, Cheltenham, Chepstow, Chester, Goodwood, Haydock and Newbury. I think Chester switched sides in the ’90s and Haydock became shared sometime around then
Doncaster, Epsom, Kempton, Newmarket, Sandown and York have been on ITV/C4 since at least circa the mid-’70s
Or so my dodgy memory recalls
January 7, 2017 at 07:01 #1280527I see that Channel 4 will be showing “darts” from Frimley this afternoon.
It will be fascinating to see the viewing figures compared to ITV 4 racing.
January 7, 2017 at 10:47 #1280577I’ll be recording take-two of ITV racing and enjoy my brain-improving siesta accompanied by the white noise of darts: not too many 180s please chaps
This annual exposure to the arrers has long been a highlight of my sporting year, though it won’t be quite as fresh ‘n’ different this year as during a lengthy piece of sleuthing the Goggler that would have made Sherlock proud, I came across a hitherto unknown channel known only to Mycroft and Moriarty, given the strange cipher ‘ITV4’. And whaddya know there was Phil the Power and the rest of the Premier Division at Butlins, Minehead
Viewing figures 94 + Drone
Will Bobby George be transferring from BBC to C4? Can’t wait to find out. Bake Off eat yer cake out
January 7, 2017 at 11:36 #1280592January 7, 2017 at 11:38 #1280595Have no fear Drone, Bobby “bling-bling” George will be at Frimley with the team.
He is a quite a character.
