December 30, 2016 at 11:14 #1279252I daresay there’s many a nefarious method that allows you to watch BBC programmes on-line without stumping up the Licence Fee, but if I knew how to do it I certainly wouldn’t publicize it on a message board
I would have thought that endeavouring to find and then watch pirated programmes is treading on legally thinnish ice and to then advise others how to do it falling through non-existant ice
Deception, fraud, theft? Call it what you like: it’s really no different than legging it from a takeaway without paying for the chips…isn’t it?
Or am I just a pompous, hypocritical old fogey
December 30, 2016 at 12:08 #1279259More akin to someone else running out the chips without paying and handing you a couple of soggy ones Drone but I get your point.

December 30, 2016 at 13:41 #1279267I don’t think that the presenters have served the audience too badly over the years. I compare it with the experience a few weeks back
Usually listen to virtually the only decent programme on the pretty dismal radio 5 on Saturday mornings. I.e. The great Danny baker
A few weeks back there was a shudder of horror which resulted in me flying across the kitchen like superman whereby I managed to achieve my aim of punching the off button whilst still in mid air.
Colin Murray.
Need I say more…

And on that note, I think I’ll just leave it at that.

Many thanks for your invaluable advice as usual, Drone.

So sorry, Triptych Jac.

December 30, 2016 at 18:18 #1279305Definitely not showing up on Virgin 536 unless something happens in the morning. Very fed up about it too.

Just tune in this afternoon and should be grand.
December 31, 2016 at 09:34 #1279401Aghhhhhhhhh, just switched the TV on for Morning Line !!
December 31, 2016 at 10:58 #1279437Racing UK is also available free online today only.
I don’t have Sky or Virgin Media where I am now, so I’m tuning in online today (legitimately!), and try catch a bit of the action in between chippy work. Am just watching the Mark Your Card feature right now, as I speak.
December 31, 2016 at 11:33 #1279455Golf and cricket for obvious reasons have no business on a two to two and half hour live broadcast on a Saturday afternoon. A fact not lost on TV execs either, I’d imagine.
I cant recall ever being too negative about C4 Racing’s coverage, I’d gotten quite fond of the IMG incarnation. The second largest spectator sport in the UK which annually generates billions in betting turnover and is rooted in the culture of these islands particularly on a Saturday, should expect to have a few hours of those Saturdays covered on a main channel every week imo, and not be terming itself atavistic.
I dont get too hung up on presenters either, but seemingly many do. Presenter effect on audience size was certainly factored into C4’s decision to have more Clare Balding and bring McCoy on board in 2016. To little effect it seems.
Personally I couldn’t care less, I’ll still watch the racing anyway, but taken from the perspective of a general leisure/casual viewer, its particularly disappointing that ITV after such a good start with Ed Chamberlain went down a very deferential, soulless, detached, mediocre and incurious road with its broadcast team. If terrestrial racing has demographic and presentation issues, I see very little of those issues addressed here.
Greater than half of Racings terrestrial coverage now moves to a backwater, with garbage viewing figures, on a network that will simultaneously play old movies on its main channel.
Gone With The Wind, alright.
Its a rum do imo.
December 31, 2016 at 12:28 #1279479It has come up this morning Jimsun!

Yeah, that’s great, Crepello. I’ve only just gotten back online now. Enjoy it while you can.

Blimey. Not a NH expert, just betting reporter.
January 2, 2017 at 14:38 #1279888Thanks for clearing that up.
January 6, 2017 at 16:24 #1280435The look back was interesting – liked it – but could’ve done better. Concentrated too much on the 2000s. C4 took over in 1984.
How much of the big races did Channel 4 have from 1986 to 2005ish? eg Cheltenham/Ascot – anything to do with BBC having those? Please forgive the potentially stupid question
Anyway, my only criticism is similar to yours. But, it reminded me as to why I love racing. I know that the great man Vincent O’Brien was at the retirement age from 1990’s on wards, but I thought it was a shame that a clip of him was left out. Lovely touch to have Walter Swinburn given a nice prominent place. Would like to have seen a little more for Pat Eddery. Best bit was when Henry Cecil winning the British Champion Stakes so close after Sheikh Mo split with him; in fairness Sheikh Mo was gracious and humorous handing the sword trophy to Cecil. Then of course the clip of the traditional three cheers for Henry, and the look of relief for Lady Jane Cecil winning at Royal Ascot
