Ipswich Town
25/1each way
looks an interesting bet to me.
So far Town have not won away from home lost 4 drawn four, but seven straight home wins this season means they occupy a top six berth. They have played one less (home) game than the sides around them.
The club`s massive debt has just been written off and they are promised
several million pounds to dip into the transfer market in the new year from the new majority shareholder.
A six nil hammering of high flying Bristol City yesterday and they are still 25/1 with Betfred and Sportingbet.
A couple of away wins would improve Ipswich`s league position dramatically.November 11, 2007 at 10:48 #124159Some good info there Sam. 23’s to small money on Betfair. Good luck if you’ve dabbled.
November 11, 2007 at 10:52 #124161Yes – looks like a good bet. Thanks for that.
November 11, 2007 at 10:54 #124162If by each-way you mean the first three I think 25/1 is fair. They ain’t going to win it so you’re playing the place part of the bet only. If you really fancy them you would do better to start backing their single results. If they do as well as you think they will then your return will be much better.
They have every chance of reaching a play off slot though.
December 2, 2007 at 17:02 #128450Ipswich are now out to 33/1 with skybet and as low as 14 with VC.
Since posting, Ipswich have won home to saints, lost away to cardiff
and yesterday drew 0-0 at home to Barnsley.
The goaless draw is a highly significant result in that the pressure has been lifted to continue a run of home wins and hopefully they can now break the away hoodoo at Bristol City on tuesday night.Yes Corm this is certainly an each way bet rather than anything else.
Like you, I feel they are set for the play offs, but if they pick up on the away form a top three place is there for them.
Cheers davidbrady.
Sorry to insomniac if you`ve played the win part!!December 3, 2007 at 17:09 #128595Good luck Sporting Sam.
The question I would ask is what will happen first?
1. Home form will take a turn for the worse.
2. Away form will take a turn for the better. If you think it will be number 2, then 33/1 is still a very good each way bet considering their home form. If there is a big chance that it could be number 1, then just sit on your ticket and keep your fingers crossed

December 3, 2007 at 19:55 #128638Didn’t have a bet Sam, but thanks anyway.
You made a well supported argument to back up your recommendation and that’s something I like to read. Good luck to you and Ipswich.December 3, 2007 at 22:15 #128664The success of this bet (to a large extent) could well be decided in the next 5 days when Ipswich go to Bristol City (currently 5th) on Tuesday and then Charlton (4th) on Saturday.
I actually backed them on Betfair planning to lay off after looking at their upcoming fixtures and thought they should win their next 3 which were Cardiff away (which they lost), Southampton at home (which they won) and Burnley at home (draw last Saturday). If they had have won those 3, they would now be on 34 pts only 2 pts behind Watford and with a game in hand. They never really shortened up but such is football (and betting!)
December 4, 2007 at 23:08 #128842Good old Ipswich lost away again!
December 11, 2007 at 13:37 #129998They did play us (Bristol City) off the park in the second half midweek, but after an average first half they were always chasing the game. I think it was a pretty similar story line at Charlton on Saturday from looking a the highlights.
I think Magilton needs to play Counago from the start as he has come on with good effect in both games recently. As for finishing in the top 3 they have a lot of work to do and even the manager admitted on Saturday he will have to bring a few in, having said that the division is so bad they aren’t that far off the pace.
December 11, 2007 at 13:55 #1300013 home games in a row coming up, the 1st 2 of which are eminently winnable (Leicester & Scunthorpe) with Burnely after those 2. Can’t see them doing it now though as they are 11 pts behind Watford albeit with a game in hand. I can see them going the other way actually as I don’t think their home form can last the whole season and a couple of dropped points at home could see them end up in mid-table obscurity.
West Brom could be worth a lay with a view to backing them at a higher price early in the new year as 4 of their next 5 matches are Charlton (H), Stoke (A), Bristol City (H), Ipswich (A). Of course if they win all them they will nearly be odds-on
December 29, 2007 at 17:11 #132387Today might just be the day that Ipswich kick start their season and break their away hoodoo at Coventry City.
The home form has kept up reasonably well with two draws and a win at home recently, but to have any chance of even making the play offs Ipswich need a win away and form against the sky blues in recent seasons is good.December 30, 2007 at 22:50 #132538Ipswich?? Well at the moment, there away form is shocking compared to their home form. Away form is like 3 out of 39 points.
Still, if they pick that up, then i think they have got a great shout.
Still i am a West Brom fan
Biased?? Never
December 31, 2007 at 09:48 #132564And the Baggies are in Town tomorrow!!
Ipswich were truely dire at Coventry, the transfer window cant come soon enough….if their away form was only shocking they would have more than 3 points from 39!!! Shocking is not the word…..
Mikky Mo`s post about what would come first, a dip in home form or a change in fortune away was spot on.
The home record is certainly under threat.
West Brom`s visit is ominous. They won by a cricket score at Portman Road last season and at the hawthorns this season 5-1, 4-0.
But… you never know!!December 31, 2007 at 10:19 #132573Ipswich are top of the "home" table with 32 points from a possible 36 while they are bottom of the "away" table with 4 points from 39!
December 31, 2007 at 19:51 #132636Marb, Palace havn’t exactly being playing the very best teams in the past month even if their results have improved significantly. I only form a view about a team when I get to see them live on TV or extended hightlights on ITV on Sundays. I took a negative view of Palace last August in the televised away defeat to Ipswich. Norwich have turned around a bit under new management and their recent draws against Wolves and Charlton are very respectable results. Palace may well win but any value lies in laying them at 1.88 IMHO.
January 1, 2008 at 12:38 #132686My hunch is that the Black Cats will hover around third and fourth from bottom for most of the season.
