I thought Barney Roy got it wrong in the International. I can understand why they did what they did as Ulysses beat him at Sandown and they decided to do something different. Looking at the odds it doesn’t look like Ulysses will be running, great odds if he does.
Anyway Cracksman is a different test to Barney Roy and it tactically he may be able to sit behind and strike late as opposed to what they did at York.
I think if they can time the attack on Barney Roy right he will win.Blackbeard to conquer the World

I think if they can time the attack on Barney Roy right he will win.Looking at the International beforehand, Nathan; there was no obvious pace. Strong possibility of Coolmore’s Plan A producing a slowish pace for their Number 1 hope (with mile speed) Churchill, together with positional advantage for second-string (front-runner) Cliffs Of Moher… And – if previous tactics were employed by both Barney Roy and Ulysses – leaving both main rivals at a positional disadvantage. Out the back and risking not getting a run.
So can understand Godolphin’s decision racing more prominently with Barney. However, as often is the case when their main rival takes a Coolmore pace setter on, Plan B comes in to operation. Pace becomes too quick. If reducing the chances of their main rival then even if their own pace setter is compromised it also increases the chance of Ballydoyle’s main hope… ie worth doing. Unfortunately for them Ulysses beat the plan.
Did think it strange Godolphin didn’t have a pacemaker of their own. Hopefully they don’t make the same mistake twice.
Value Is EverythingOctober 10, 2017 at 06:46 #1320920spot on with last sentence GT, thought barney was ridden far to aggressively at York
On Cracksman I was at York(I know you can see the same on tv) but I remember turning to my son as they turned in at York and telling him, cracksman was neigh on first beat, the long straight was made for him. I am not sure that ascot will suit and he maybe done for a beat of toe, cant wait for the race/meeting
October 10, 2017 at 08:50 #1320923Will Highland Reel turn up ?
16’s is tempting indeed if he heads here and gets his ground, that’s just the problem . According to the media we look set for dry warm weather this month. Pulled out of Canada, so just 2 races for him in the next month.
Would look great on his CV this race, also it’s a race the trainer has never won before. If not getting his ground then Del Mar is his other target and i really don’t want him to go there for selfish reasons.
Arguably got the best form over the distance out of all the runners this year after beating Ulysses and Decorated Knight on merit in the Prince of Wales stakes.
Not had a bet on him yet but will do if it looks likely he’s a runner. NRNB would be nice
October 11, 2017 at 17:39 #1321104why not just stick with Cracksman? sounds like you have little faith in the horse.
Because I think Brametot if running, will beat him.
If not, I fancy Cracksman is probably too good for the rest of the likely runners. Though I think Beat The Bank is more than useful.
As it goes, I haven’t had a bet yet. I have a nagging feeling that the expected lineup has a twist still to come yet.
October 13, 2017 at 13:13 #1321296SO cracksman is running afterall
October 14, 2017 at 19:12 #1321681I wish I could fancy Cracksman but, over this trip, I can’t help thinking there will be one or two with more kick than him. I hear the argument that he has got quicker and that he did show a turn of foot in his last two runs but he was quickening away from horses like Avilius and Venice Beach not proper G1, 10f horses. He should have run in the Arc. I hope I’m wrong.
Interesting that Ulysses still hasn’t been ruled out of the race. If the rain stays away and he runs, he will be very hard to beat. If not then I think Barney Roy will go close. He has always been trained for this race and his form stacks up. I really cannot see why Cracksman is 5-2 whilst Barney is 5’s….

October 16, 2017 at 14:25 #1321892My antepost on rhododendron dosent seem to be paying off i taken the 9/2 about ulysses late last night, just seen hes a confirmed runner as of now
He wont be beaten, not with the weight for age at this point in the season
All over him at 9/2
Should rhododendron run ill be happy with the 20/1 as she will be thereaboutsOctober 16, 2017 at 14:45 #13218945/1 looks a more than fair price about Ulysses given we now know that he’ll run.
16/1 could look a silly price about Highland Reel come Saturday morning. I might have a nibble now and pray the rain stays away for the rest of the week.
October 17, 2017 at 08:25 #1321966Cracksman will murder this lot
October 17, 2017 at 10:57 #1321980I think we are all over complicating this!!
Just go and back Ulysses at 7/2 and get ready to collect your winnings.October 17, 2017 at 11:16 #1321982I think we are all over complicating this!!
Just go and back Ulysses at 7/2 and get ready to collect your winnings.Agreed,Hes a certainty if no rhododendron
October 17, 2017 at 18:23 #1322016I’m not doing well here as it doesn’t look as if Winter will run and with Churchill heading towards the QE2 it looks like I have 2 bets which won’t even give me a look in.
Hopefully this all bodes well for Cliffs Of Moher who I’ve taken 16/1 about. He finished in front on Cracksman in the Derby and has had rotten luck since. Maybe this’ll be his day of reckoning.
I’m keeping the rest of my powder dry until final decs now but if Ulysses is declared then I’ll plough in with a vengeance.

Can still get 10/3 with betfair judge!
October 17, 2017 at 20:21 #1322043Interesting to see if Cliffs Of Moher does run here. Paddy Power/Betfair went a standout bottom price as soon as the latest decs came out. They also took huge standout views on a few other Coolmore horses.
If so, you have to suspect they’re getting the word on ante-post targets from the Coolmore mob rather than guessing like the rest of us.
