It’s a good point. I almost hate to say it about a genius trainer who is about to break Bobby Frankel’s record, but he is not a trainer who gets the best out of every horse he trains – only the chosen ones. With the riches at his disposal I suppose it is inevitable but yes I think Cliffs would benefit from a change of stable – though it may be too late for him now. He looks horribly exposed. To see him used as cannon fodder in the Juddmonte was disappointing. It makes me laugh that Hydrangea is now a dual group 1 winner almost by accident. I backed her in the Guineas and she was used as a pacemaker and finished out with the washing. Others like The Anvil and Douglas Macarthur are probably better than they have been allowed to be as they are frequently sacrificed for their stable companions.

Lancaster Bomber is the perfect example. Just a maiden win by a short head in a 13 race career. Tailed off like a jumps horse on his latest start.

The colt would surely have won some decent contests if he were trained in his own interests instead of setting things up for Churchill most of the season.

There is an absolute shed load of dead wood behind all the Group 1 successes and there is also a good proportion of horses who could have been second tier at least in a different yard. They could do worse than let David O’Meara have a go with some of the mediocre ones.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Officialy rated the best in europe with a 130 rating

A slight exaggeration, he was extremely impressive at the weekend

But are we really suggesting that he could have or would have done what enables done all season to better fields

Not so sure, i think rating him the same as ulysses would have been a fair enough reaction, afterall he has only won 1 group 1, clearly capable of winning more, but a slight over reaction id say

The fact Cracksman has only won one Group 1 doesn’t mean anything as far as ratings are concerned, ham.

Horses are rated on what they’re thought capable of given their optimum conditions. So it does not matter how many Group 1’s the horse has to his name. Whole point is to give a fair assessment of what a horse’s form is worth. If Cracksman ran against Ulysses why would the handicapper rate them the same when the handicapper himself believes Cracksman put up the better performance (ie is the better horse)?

Makes sense for Coolmore to constantly sacrifice one (or more) horses chances, in order to increase their other horses chances of winning/making stallions. It’s against the rules of racing, but can you see the authorities acting?

I wonder how much the running of Lancaster bomber and cliffs of moher is down to the lads input. Aiden is in a strange position of possibly being the best ever trainer yet the lads decide which targets they go for and then aiden then trains them accordingly. The way they messed around tapestry running her over 10f then doing a career best in beating taghrooda over 12 for then being dropped down to a mile for the matron. Aiden is a genius given how he has to change tack with horses so much. I wonder if the lads ever think about letting aiden run them where he thinks best and maybe we would see more Highland reel and Duke of marmalades. I’m sure a dry spring/summer and both Lancaster bomber and cliffs of moher could make hay. I wouldn’t write off Lancaster from going close in the breeders Cup BTW.

Steve’s Long Term AP Canadian + Singles was 2016 Derby = garbage, 2017 Derby = garbage, Scatt Daddy’s wont train on at 3 & War Front’s wont train on at 3

His last leg is Lancaster Bomber being a donkey, despite him already being a 4 x G1 runner up in four of the worlds most prestigious races. That is despite the fact that he is War Front’s second best performing colt that he has ever produced. :negative:

fair point, it just seems a slight over-reaction personally to have him rated higher han ulysses at this point, although i dont believe ulysses would have won so easily, so maybe its a fair assessment, we will know next year i guess?

Mickey do you believe all this “the lads will decide where he/she goes next…”?? I’ve often wondered if it is a way of keeping the pressure off. Witness the stick JG got (including from people like me!!) for not running Cracksman in the Arc. Surely Aidan must have some input?

It would be foolish to think that aiden dosent contribute to about 90% of the targets, he will simply run it by them where they are heading and the lads will ok it, they wont be the ones saying we want to go here or there, they might however say “could hydrangea go upto 1m4f” but aiden will be the catalyst in all decisions

If you think they decide everything you need your head checked

Not to mention ballydoyle/aiden clearly take pride in highlighting at every junction its a massive “team” effort, by including the lads in at every interview hes just making sure they are kept in the picture
