Yes, Katchit could win it but I very much doubt it and do not feel he is a value bet at present.
Nothing to do with his age, had he put up a performance good enough then he would be good enough, whether 5yo or 12. But small horses often reach their peak earlier than bigger types, and Katchit is small. No hurdler has a bigger heart but that can only get him so far. His form has levelled out, like has already been said, don’t see where he has improved at all this season. How you can say he did not come up the hill at Cheltenham last time. Fact is he came 10 lengths clear of the rest, he came up the hill very well. I think had Katchit won then Alan King would have more incentive to run the horse more often. May be in the back of his mind he realises, the fewer times Katchit goes to the well, the easier it is to keep the dream alive. Katchit will be there or thereabouts but the winner will be the one who can improve another 7 or 8 pounds. Harchibald and Afsoun have a mindset to overcome, Sublimity has to recapture last years form. Osana did get a few lengths at the start, and Sizing Europe’s form can be picked holes in but they are both improvers. I believe Katchit is one of the unlikeliest of the established top hurdlers to show improvement and that is why he is drifting in the market, but if you know differently good luck to you and your little terrier.Ginge
Value Is EverythingFebruary 5, 2008 at 17:30 #140420The one thing i’m pretty sure of this year is that the horse to win this years champion hurdle was a novice last year. I’d also fancy katchit to be in front of Osana come the day too but don’t think there will neccessarilly be much distance between them.
Definitely a race too look forwood too.
February 5, 2008 at 17:44 #140427Osana will make all, Sizing Europe will challenge him from the home turn and get embroiled in a battle, Harchibald will cruise up after the last flight and nose in front with half a furlong to go, but Sublimity is tracking Harchibald and hits the front in the final 20 yards after Harchibald traded at 1.07 in running.
I can review other races as well but I do charge for that.

February 5, 2008 at 20:22 #140454Osana will make all…Harchibald will nose in front…Sublimity hits the front…
I am about to be accused of being a pedant, but if Osana were to "make all" nothing would head him.
"Can Katchit win?" Obviously the answer is "yes".
"Is he likely to win?" No.
"Is it reasonable for his supporters – some of them not a million miles from where I am sitting – to believe that he still has a squeak?" I would like to think so.
February 5, 2008 at 20:22 #140455Yes, most definitely – my main reservation is that he might miss a hurdle down the back and not being as robust as most of his opponents struggle to get back into it or use up too much energy in doing so – similar to what happened Mac’s Joy the first time he ran in the Champion.

Prufock you are a pedant. Whatever one of those may be.
February 5, 2008 at 20:32 #140457Pru,
If you’d have said what you did while being drunk, can you be accused of being pedant-hic?

February 5, 2008 at 20:49 #140461The great thing about little Katchit is you know he will run to form, as I cannot recall him ever failing to do so. However improvement has also appeared to be slow, and will have to accelerate rapidly in order for him to challenge Sizing Europe & (a fit) Sublimity IMO.
February 5, 2008 at 21:00 #1404631) Not good enough
2) Bidding to buck a terrible age stat.
3) Taking on what will turn out to be the best hurdler of the last number of years in Sizing Europe, who wins easily. That would be no then.

Love the way Fist has gone from never shutting up about Katchit to "fancying SE for ages" – love that Communist Russia-type revisionism

I sincerely hope that this ‘number’ does not exceed 7, Carvills!

Fist is right here mate and I had the horse on my mind since boxing day which was the first time I ever laid eyes on him. You on the otherhand are about 10 points in the bettting behind me
Now let’s set the record straight here. I never knew the horse existed until Boxing Day when I was looking through some old Irish races. I watched one race on ATR from April 07 and took a note to have a further look at the horse after the Xmas period.I have never seen the race he beat Osana in it is not available anyhwere.
On the 10th of Januuary I took a second look at the race again and the following race when he fell.
From those two viewings I made my mind up I was going to bet him in The Champion Hurdle. I searched everywhere to try and find the race he beat Osana an even called some friends in the UK but no one could help. I said nothing as a few people on here were slagging me in every second post.
On the 16th or 17th of January I posted what I thought would win the Champion Hurdle in some silly thread about how good Straw Bear was. I said he was useless and had no chance in the Champion Hurdle and posted what I thought would be the first three home in the race,
1. Sizing Europe 2. Katchit. 3 Blythe Knight or Harchibald depending on the ground. He was 10/1-12/1 for the Champion Hurdle I bet him the next morning and got 12/1 and not for peanuts I can assure you……….and it’s about 1/10th of what I have going on to Kauto Star at 7/2 for the Gold Cup……….So mate I might fookin buy Russia after they both piss up.
I have the same amount on Katchit but I have made it pretty obvious the horse I think will win is Sizing Europe long before he won the AIG not after like you
The only other person out of all the meber on here who mentioed the horse was some guy who postd in Aragons thread about the trainer……….said he would win the champion hurdle at 50/1. I hope to hell h backed it at 50’s or he wont be a happy chappy now.February 5, 2008 at 22:36 #1404913) Taking on what will turn out to be the best hurdler of the last number of years in Sizing Europe, who wins easily.

Wish it did we could all collect now

February 6, 2008 at 15:00 #140653Fist stated on 16th Jan:
"Sizing Europe has won 2 of his last 3 races and would have been 3 had he not fallen at the 2nd last. He’s definitely on the upgrade and the race has all the hallmarks of a race looking for a new kid on the block……..looks a real tough horse who keeps finding a bit more when needed. Has also won at Cheltenham when beating Osana granted he was receiving 6lbs but has been rested since. I expect he will improve more and at 10/1 is the value bet of the race. Certainly looks a much tougher horse and better proposition than favourite Sublimity. "
However, you don’t apepar to have stated you backed him prior to winning the AIG. Which is unfortunate because now whether you like it or not you are open to the time honoured forum accuastion of aftertiming".
By the way, all UK and Irish races can be watched on the ATR website or the RP.The race you say you couldn’t find (the Greatwood I believe) is available at:
http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/resu … 2007-11-18Mind it does cost 20p to download so you will need to deposit into your RP wallet.
Oh, and having just rewatched it myself, Osana did go "the long way round" Sizing Europe sticking to the inside so Osana probably lost at least a length doing that. Also, on breeding you would say Sizing Europe has a more stamina laden pedigree so the attrtional conditions that day probably suit SE far more than Osana. Perhaps if they get good ground on 11th March, Osana may well be capable of slipping them, and exploiting the 6lb pull with SE?
Thanks for that Kwai unfortunately I am having trouble with the site at the moment. I don’t know if it’s because it has been blocked here as they block sites every other day here. It could also be some codecs I installed or the problem lies within Internet Expolorer which keeps freezing……….the fact I use firefox as well may not be helping either……….I’m sure I’ll get it fixed eventually.
February 6, 2008 at 15:38 #140665The RP vids won’t work with Firefox (or at least they didn’t work when I checked very recently). I think it says on the website somewhere.
